Why can't egg cartons be returned to Migros? The use-by date would not necessarily have to be visible on the carton, as the eggs are already stamped accordingly. This could save a lot of unnecessary waste.

I don't think it's a bad idea, but it's probably hardly feasible. But there is another, relatively simple solution: many farmers who sell eggs at markets or farm shops are grateful recipients of used egg cartons. Or you can buy an egg container, e.g. from Tupperware, and take it with you when you go shopping. I do this, for example, when I go to the bakery to pick up my waffles or patisserie. Instead of using cardboard and wrapping paper, I use my Tupperware containers for packing. I'm not the odd one out, but the sales clerks are always pleased...
