I think the garlic and onion powder is great for polishing up dips and gratins.
BUT: does this stuff have to come from China?
I would happily pay more if it came from Switzerland or at least Europe.

Here is a good article on YouTube about another producer:
Organic garlic - growing in Switzerland
I also know the industry relatively well, so I'm sure there are other growers in Switzerland. And as you can see in the video, it is also possible to grow garlic organically...

In Austria, they also manage to grow "organic garlic for the whole country"; why shouldn't that be possible in Switzerland?
Why only the video from YouTube and not the page "Nahe liegendes bei Spar" with more interesting facts? Especially in the flyer (pdf) "Organic garlic recipes"!
"Around Frauenkirchen, Stekovics is producing around 200 tons of garlic on 19 hectares this year, which will be sold via a wholesale chain."

"Garlic cultivation in Austria - currently around 200 hectares, of which around 50% is organic! But that only covers 10% of the total domestic demand."

If every Swiss person needed one garlic bulb a year, it would take 800 tons!
As a single person, I consume ~ 20 bulbs, of which 5-6 are fresh during the season.

@Frederica I liked the video, that's why.
I also saw the Spar page and as you proved, you can also find it that way, thanks for the link.
I find the figures you posted interesting, as they show that 100% regional production is possible:
Let's assume that on average 20 bulbs per person per year is the desired amount of garlic we want to harvest. That means we would use less than 0.2% of the total agricultural area for this!
It's feasible, but Migros doesn't seem to be interested, otherwise it would have done it long ago.
And if you stick 20 toes in the ground, you can harvest 20 garlics afterwards.
Migros is unlikely to change fundamentally any time soon. So let's look for alternatives now... It's not that difficult!

@Tanja_Migros I would like to get an answer to my question from 3 weeks ago whether Migros is actively looking for an organic garlic producer in Switzerland?

Hello@ivan92
Thanks for the tip. I'll have to check again myself. I know that the product range managers have been in talks with our supplier. Unfortunately, I don't yet know what the outcome is.
I have already asked!
Kind regards
Tanja

Hello ivan92
I have just spoken to the person responsible for the product range on the phone. He assured me that, together with our supplier, we regularly check the supply in geographically closer areas and, of course, in Switzerland.
At the moment, however, it really is the case that our 600 stores require a quantity that could not be covered. By importing raw materials, we can ensure consistently high quality all year round.
I hope you understand this.
Kind regards
Tanja

@Tanja_Migros What do you mean by check? I don't understand the problem. Who is this supplier? And why is it not possible for him to supply regional products?
Guest
The check means that those responsible look to see whether there is a sufficiently large offer nearby that meets all quality requirements and specifications.
Kind regards
Tanja
