A test has just been carried out by Warentest regarding BPA. So I wanted to ask whether Migros canned food is on the list and how the canned food is produced today? Which tinned food contains BPA?

Since the transition periods for the production of most of the affected food packaging will expire in the summer of 2026, I’d like to inquire about the current status at Migros:
Have the inner coatings of canned goods (e.g., tomatoes, coconut milk, chickpeas, tuna) already been completely switched to BPA-free alternatives? If not, which products still contain BPA?
What alternatives are being used for the coatings? And are these alternatives listed on the labels?

All of our packaging complies with our internal guidelines as well as all legal requirements. In addition, we regularly conduct risk-based inspections of all packaging (especially plastic packaging).
Depending on the product and its acidity, we use either tin or plastic to coat the inside walls of the cans. Of course, there are clear guidelines for these materials as well, which we constantly review. As a result, both materials are safe. They are ideal for storing food in cans and guarantee the stated shelf life.
Regarding bisphenol A:
Migros has been monitoring the issue of bisphenol A (BPA) for years. Our risk assessments are based on the statements issued by the FOPH (Federal Office of Public Health), the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority), and the BfR (Federal Institute for Risk Assessment).
Our suppliers are required to comply with legal requirements. As part of our sample testing and product range inspections, we conduct regular checks for bisphenol A and other bisphenols to ensure compliance with the law.
