2 questions

Hello, two large ant mounds were created in two pots I have on my terrace and after trying natural remedies, I had to put a small box inside each pot to get rid of the huge amount of ants that had been created. I wanted to know if I can plant in those pots (if so, how can I get rid of the residual product?) or if I have to throw out all the soil since it is probably contaminated with the product and therefore dangerous. I would like to know how to proceed.Thank you very much

Hi Dipim Thanks for your inquiry. This year ants are particularly active. Therefore, choosing bait traps is a good choice. The active ingredient in the traps is spinosad, which is extracted from a naturally occurring bacterium, Saccharopolyspora spinosa. Once the ants have been successfully fought off, you can throw the bait traps in the household waste and plant fresh soil again. The soil is not contaminated. So, you are free to reuse the soil. The Migros specialty store team

Can I place the ant trap in the garden bed?

Why would you put an ant trap in the garden bed? This logic eludes me.

Hello MB1098, thank you for your message. Ants themselves are not plant pests, they do not feed on plants. This is why there are no approved plant protection products to protect plants against ants. However, ants damage plants through their burrowing activity. In addition, ants help to ensure that aphids can suck on the plants unhindered by grooming them. The main damage is caused by the creation of tunnels and anthills in the soil. This loosens the roots of the plants. These roots lose their connection to the soil and absorb neither water nor nutrients. Affected plants wilt and turn yellow. As soon as you notice the ants' activity, regularly tamp down the soil around the plants. Also water the plants more frequently and more intensively. Our ant repellents are very effective and reliably kill the ants. However, ant repellents are not plant protection products, but approved biocides. These may be used indoors and outdoors on paths, parking areas, patios and yards. The use on plants, e.g. balcony and potted plants, is therefore not permitted. However, it is possible to sprinkle or place ant repellent around plant pots or paths around flower beds. Kind regards, your M-Infoline team
