have the Swiss IP veal shanks been frozen?
Hello mariweb. Yes, we freeze the veal shanks so that we can cut them more easily. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Hello
The packaged meat always has an expiry date, which is based on average shelf life values. Meat that has expired should/is usually thrown away. This leads to large mountains of meat waste, even though not all products are spoiled. The alternative is a temperature label, which changes color if either the cold chain is not maintained or the meat is no longer fresh. The labels were invented in Germany and are used successfully in Ukraine. I would be delighted if Migros were to use such labels in future and make an active contribution to reducing the mountains of waste.
Kind regards
Basil Weingärtner from Riehen
And why is it not used in Germany?
"Because manufacturers and retailers allegedly can't guarantee the cold chain!"

Do you know that or is it conjecture? Could it not also be because the EU mills grind much more slowly than may be the case in Ukraine?
Dear Basil

Hello Bweingartner
Thank you for your message.
Migros makes every effort to prevent the destruction of food as far as possible. With sophisticated logistics and planning in the stores, we ensure that the vast majority of food can be sold at the regular price. We offer goods whose best-before date is about to expire at reduced prices to our customers and employees. We also provide charitable organizations with goods that are about to expire.
What remains is 1.4 percent of the food. Of this, 0.3 percent is used as animal feed. By law, however, food waste containing meat may no longer be used as animal feed. We produce biogas from 0.8% of food and compost from 0.1%. Finally, just 0.2 percent ends up as waste in the waste incineration plant.
As all the food we have to throw away represents a loss for us, we try to keep this value as low as possible.
Thank you for the information about the temperature labels. However, there are currently no plans to use such a label at Migros.
Kind regards from the M-Infoline team
