What's the story behind the fact that the lids on the drinks bottles are no longer loose but locked in place? The liquid collects in the lid and drips when pouring. Is it because too many lids were found in the ocean this time?

There is an EU rule that stipulates this. From this summer, all bottles must be connected to the cap. As Migros also produces bottles for the whole of Europe, it makes no exceptions for Switzerland and would probably not be worth it...

Ooh, of course, the EU, how could I forget that😄(grin). Thank you for your reply with the information 🙂👍

These new lids are so impractical, I'm thinking of the salad dressing lid, for example, which I can no longer close, that you should make a fuss like you used to against the straight cucumbers.
Hello Tenderloin. Dragonball's answer is correct. As part of its circular economy package, the EU has also adopted a plastics strategy which, among other things, regulates single-use plastics. Apart from the ban on single-use plastic items, such as plastic straws and plastic stirrers, drinks containers are also being targeted. The new EU regulation stipulates that the caps must remain attached to the bottles even when they are open. In the EU, this requirement applies to all beverage containers on sale from July 1, 2024. The primary aim is to prevent loose caps from ending up in the environment and to recycle them together with the bottles. The Swiss authorities have not yet officially issued a corresponding regulation. However, our suppliers and partners have informed us that they will no longer produce non-compliant closures from the standard ranges of international manufacturers from the end of 2023. As we purchase our lids from them, we are forced to use these lids as well. Kind regards, Yann

Hi Yann Thank you very much for this information. It was interesting to learn more details 🙂👍 Regards, Ian
I tear off the lids as a matter of principle (but dispose of them with lids, of course).
*smiles*😉 I admit, I do that too.👍

I have known for a long time that the EU is responsible for the lid fiasco. What I mean by my rebellion is a rebellion against the EU.

Yes 🙂😉
