No, but in a real Berner Anke-Züpfe (which is probably what is meant by 'plait' here) it is - and not in short supply. Somewhere between 150-250g per kg of flour, depending on the recipe. This is an essential flavor carrier. A Züpfe without butter is not a Züpfe, but something else.

@n_vogel: I just don't understand why vegans adapt these words to their needs and don't create a new distinctive neologism. Nobody would be bothered by it and only vegans have to understand it anyway. But no: Zopf, Züpfe, sausage and schnitzel have to be stolen... I ask myself: is it just about proselytizing or even about establishing "new facts"?
