@Federwolke: The only problem with your thesis is that Migros sells Chinese imports just as expensively as its competitors sell Swiss products! On the contrary, I have already found Swiss products cheaper at Landi or Coop than Migros' Chinese products! A long time ago, Migros once used the excuse for importing frozen kefen from China that no supplier in Switzerland, Europe or anywhere closer than China was able to deliver the quantities required by Migros. "Because they always prefer the geographically closest supplier!", they said at the time. After a brief investigation, I informed Migros that a German supplier could supply the required quantities, and I could even have made contact. Migros was obviously not interested in this, they didn't even think it was necessary to reply to my email. The frozen peas still come from China, as most of the range already does.

I don't think Migros would claim today that the closest supplier is always preferred, because it would be immediately clear that it's a big lie. Due to the different climate, the quality was much poorer than that of the Chinese ones. The price was also much higher. The climate in Germany is also not much better for snow peas than here. Since the nuclear disaster in Fukushima, we have carried out increased radioactivity tests on food from Asia. The information on pesticides in products from China has also prompted us to step up our analyses in this regard. Perhaps we should also visit the vegetable growing areas and check which pesticides and fungicides are used and how the soil is doing. I don't believe that healthy vegetables can grow in poisoned soil.

Aha, suddenly it's supposed to be quality reasons why China is the only possible supplier of Kefen. Funnily enough, not a word was mentioned about this at the time, so this excuse is not very credible!

OK for snow peas of course, but the original question is about asparagus - and asparagus is great quality from Germany - plus it's not far - and possibly the most important reason Germany is a low-wage country - so perfect! Unfortunately there are more and more food recalls there, but better than from China perhaps? So why not asparagus from Germany?

Asparagus tips from Switzerland would of course be better - Migros, we also have asparagus in Switzerland. I am convinced that customers would buy these asparagus - it would be worth a try!
