Swallowing pills" quirk

Macke "Tabletten schlucken"

Guest

Hello everyone, let's change the subject: painkillers. Unfortunately, I am one of those people who have problems swallowing pills. Yes, even as an adult I still have this problem. Whether "hidden" in food or other methods - nothing works. I've been training my whole life, so to speak. Is anyone else here like this? What alternatives do you use? I feel a bit alone on this topic.

Hi there First of all, I wanted to agree with the others that it's usually more food-related questions that are asked here. But as this is unfortunately a really tedious problem, I thought I would help anyway. Personally, I have had my best experiences with pain gel. It's probably the most practical "intake" option. However, you should inform yourself thoroughly in advance. I can recommend this article in this regard: https://www.arzneimittelfakten.de/schmerzgel-test/ Get well soon!

Unfortunately your question has nothing to do with Migros and then it will probably be deleted... Lots of liquid and then swallow with it. Don't think about the tablets! Some can be divided into smaller pieces... Honestly, headache tablets aren't so big that they cause so many problems? Then I wonder how you swallow antibiotics? They can be MEGA big! Tip: Headache medication is available in Dafalgan sachets that you put in your mouth and powder well. Or dissolve and then drink. Ask the pharmacy and your doctor.

Don't let it get you down, you're not alone in having this problem, I even have it happen to me more often and not only with medication but also when eating and drinking, which is due to the MS, maybe the advice from @migrosommer14 will help you, otherwise go to the doctor and get advice and/or have it checked out where the swallowing disorder comes from, all the best.

I had the same problem for a long time. Can't you crumble the tablets and then swallow them? After all, the effect is the same, isn't it? It doesn't matter whether they dissolve in the stomach first or arrive already dissolved, does it? In any case, swallowing lots of water doesn't help. The knowledge that the tablet is there usually ensures that nothing goes down and your throat literally constricts. Have a look, I've picked out a few tips for you here: https://www.apotheken-umschau.de/Medikamente/So-faellt-Tabletten-Schlucken-leichter-466421.html I no longer take any tablets at all. My homeopath once recommended that I try CBD oil for mild pain (it's now available at several places, I think even at the pharmacy: https://www.cbd-vital.ch/cbd-oele ). It works well and if it doesn't, I just sit out the pain.

It depends on which painkiller, there are effervescent tablets of Dafalgan, for example! or just crush them and put them in water, tastes horrible though

No good advice!!! There are some tablets which, when divided, do not have the same active ingredient in terms of dose. And when crushed, they may have less or no effect or a different effect. The ones with a coating of varnish should not dissolve in the stomach but in the intestine. Capsules may do the same. Some do not dissolve and are excreted again. Some things like paracetamol work. But as already written, it is available as a powder or liquid. I would probably rather take that.

It actually has little to do with the site. There are enough forums that have been created specifically for this problem. It's best to have a look there.

Maybe, but only those who are affected by it themselves know what it means.

Most tablets can be mortared, i.e. pulverized, and then mixed into e.g. yoghurt and swallowed well, this is what such a mortar looks like: https://www.amavita.ch/de/lgs-tablettenmorser-no-98.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIg8zNs7ml7AIV14BQBh0OEw2sEAQYASABEgL9ffD_BwE Painkillers are often also available in a form other than tablets, e.g. aspirin effervescent tablets, chewable tablets, granules. You are certainly not alone with this "problem", I know some people who cannot swallow tablets (well) either.

Very dangerous tips. That's exactly why I think it's important to ask questions in the right place. Some medications must not be taken with dairy products! And you can only crush a few of them, there's a reason why they're made up the way they are (some may only dissolve in the intestine) - it's super stupid to advise something like that...

Yes, I already assumed that you can read the package insert yourself.
