"Illusion" Migros wants to set up a Switzerland-wide recycling system for plastic.

«Illusion» Die Migros will ein Schweizweites Recycling-System für Plastik aufbauen.

UPDATE 18 June 2020: @Nina_Migros Unfortunately, the reports on TV and in the other media did not clearly communicate that it is still possible to dispose of plastic bottles separately in the existing slots in the Migros recycling wall free of charge! This leaves only the issue of ecological balance to be discussed. Greenpeace considers Migros recycling an "illusion" https://www.nau.ch/news/wirtschaft/greenpeace-halt-migros-recycling-fur-illusion-65725736

It says somewhere that you don't necessarily have to wash it out, but it shouldn't stink either. And it doesn't matter how you fill it, because of the chopping, as long as there is no foreign matter in it that is not allowed in.↵↵↵On the subject, we have had these types of bags here for years, you can hand them in anywhere and they are called "KUH Bag" with a KUH on it😅 But what is meant is "KUnststoff Haushalt Sack" and yes it is practical for all the other plastic that cannot be collected (i.e. yoghurt pots or e.g. the white milk bottles are collected separately. We tend to put the plastic trays from meat in the KUH bag, or biscuit packaging) and immediately fill up the household waste.↵Migros version is more expensive, however.↵↵It would be better if Migros did even more without plastic, tackling the problem as it arises, so to speak, and accepting the filled bags in this way. Or for a flat rate of €1 as a symbolic levy, that would be bearable.↵↵The last point @cindetrlla1925 is "whataboutism", however, meaning that other problems are not less important just because there are bigger problems.↵Otherwise I would say here: but what about children dying in Africa and people crying about plastic here. I think you understand what I mean😋

Thank you Bodenseeknusperli & Traberli (can't page you both)! The hunger that is increasing in the world right now is primarily due to the fact that we left these countries in the lurch during the coronavirus crisis and didn't buy the goods we ordered from them (especially textiles from the spring collection). I'd rather pay something to these people than pay for the recycling of plastic bags from LeShop, which are so big for two cups of ice cream that you could put them over garden chairs as rain protection. If you can continue to throw in milk and detergent bottles... for free, why are we shown photos with recycling bags full of bottles inside? Who puts such bottles in a taxable bag when they can throw them in for free?

Hoi zäme I'll just reply to the main post here instead of to everyone individually. First of all, in general: Our recycling walls in the branches will remain unchanged. This means that everything you can put in there now, you can still put in there. The PE bottles: So these are the detergent bottles or similar. This deposit also remains. But you can also put them in the collection bag. Why should you do that? I don't know. Out of convenience? There may be people who think what the heck, there's just enough room, I'll put the bottle in this bag instead of taking it away separately. PET: Must continue to be separated. Because PET can only be made into PET again and that is why it is so important that PET is not mixed. Why do the bags cost money? They cost so that the costs incurred can be covered. This is, for example, the infrastructure that has to be created for the collection. The goods are then transported to InnoRecycling in eastern Switzerland. The long-term goal is to build a new sorting plant with the recycling partners. Then there was a comment somewhere about collection being twice as expensive. To be honest, I don't think I really understood everything. So if I'm missing the point here, then I'm sorry, I've misunderstood. What goes into the collection bag is not put into the waste bag. So fewer waste bags are used, but the plastic collection bag is used instead. In the end, the price of our bags is lower than the fee for the waste bags. However, there are municipalities that charge less and there are actually still municipalities that do not charge any fees for waste bags. We are aware of this. And the price is not set in stone. For the time being, however, it is as communicated. We would now pack more or unpack less. That's not the case. We are continuing to pursue the strategy of unpacking products or packing them in other materials where possible and sensible. Nevertheless, we find plastic recycling a sensible addition if we now have the opportunity to do so. That it comes too late... I can't say much about that. It will be implemented throughout Switzerland next year, probably in spring. So that's about 9 months. Ah yes, about washing out: It doesn't have to be washed. "Spoon clean" is enough. But if you collect the stuff in your home, then of course you might want to wash it out for the sake of the air in your home. Just don't throw the full yoghurt pot in. I hope I've answered everything. If not, I didn't mean to and you're welcome to let me know that something is still open. You can also find all the information about the project on our Generation M page, including a link to find the collection points. https://generation-m.migros.ch/de/nachhaltig-leben/plastik-recycling.html Kind regards, Nina

In Holland, for example, there have been containers for years where there is one for glass/paper/ and plastic. Costs 0 francs. The empties don't have to be clean, the main thing is that the plastic is disposed of separately. It does work!... free of charge, because the retailer sells/charges us for the packaging at the time of sale.
