Since the national introduction, an overall reduction of 84% in the number of bags has been achieved. Increasing the price is not expected to lead to a further significant reduction in consumption. If plastic bags were to become more expensive, the difference to the price of paper bags would no longer be adequate (paper bags currently cost 30 centimes). If a paper bag were then chosen instead of a plastic bag for a small purchase and for single use, the environment would not be helped - on the contrary, more damage would be done to the environment, as paper bags are designed for multiple use and also have an environmental impact.
