sometimes a funny smell...
I generally like to have these soups for lunch at work, but the Tom Kha is disappointing. The taste is irritating and far removed from the Thai original.
mediocre taste needs to be seasoned and refined
Citrusy, slightly spicy.
I hope they continue to exist
Very good instant soup
Compared to the once excellent Bon Chef Tom Kha sachet soup, which Migros has unfortunately removed from its range, this convenience product is a bitter disappointment. In terms of taste, it hardly resembles a real tom kha (gai). If I had tasted it blind, I would have thought it was a potato soup spiced up with exotic spices.
A glance at the list of ingredients confirms this impression: potato starch comes first and dominates the entire recipe. In Thailand, nobody would think of preparing a traditional tom kha (gai) with a cheap thickener base. Authentic flavors and the typical balance of coconut milk, lemongrass and galangal are nowhere to be found here.
The Bon Chef product was also much better value for money. It offered better quality at a reasonable price, while the newer product cannot compete in any way. Anyone expecting an authentic tasting tom kha will be disappointed. Instead, you get a rather arbitrary, starchy soup with a Far Eastern flavor.
Not bad but spices that drown out, e.g. ginger and lemongrass. But it's a matter of individual taste.
Good enough for a quick soup
If it has to be quick, quite OK. Too bad the Tom Kha Gai soup is no longer available in a 1 liter bag. This was much tastier and could easily be spiced up with additional vegetables and/or chicken.
