Good morning @M-Infoline Has the popular tomato SAN MARZANO been renamed PERETTI because of its pear shape? Best regards Frederica

Hello Frederica, the name "San Marzano" is registered in the European register of protected geographical indications and is therefore protected. As the Migros cooperatives procure the tomatoes themselves, we have decided to adapt the name. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Thank you @M-Infoline ? I should or could have known that, having visited Campania several times. Getting old but hopefully not forgetful ??

"Normal" San Marzano couldn't excite me. But now I've discovered the CHERRY tomatoes from the San Marzano region: Wonderful aroma! They're also on open sale, which is ideal because I like to buy some fully ripe ones and some for ripening. The price is high, but it tastes great.

According to my mother, the San Marzano Cherry a.d.R. (Lucerne) were even available in winter last year... Now I wanted to find out whether I can actually buy these tomatoes all year round or even in the winter months? If so, how does it work: (over)heated greenhouse with artificial light...?

Thank you very much, dear M-Infoline team, for your information.

True San Marzano tomatoes have the DOP seal. DOP stands for 'Denominazione d'Origine Protetta'.
DOP is guaranteed by the European Union and was created to promote the authenticity and genuine characteristics of certain foods and agricultural products throughout the continent.

In winter, we also offer San Marzano cherry tomatoes. However, these are not from the region, but from Holland. Tomatoes are not produced in Switzerland in winter due to the climatic conditions. However, we are in the process of setting up production for the winter months in warmer Sicily. However, this will take about two years of preparation. Your M-Infoline team

Many thanks for the information. Yes, I suspected that tomatoes don't thrive in Switzerland in winter... For me - DOP or not and precisely because of the authenticity ;-) - only Swiss San Marzanaos or from the Cherry San Marzanos region! I'll just enjoy the summer season all the more and for the winter I might dry some tomatoes or freeze them for sauces.
