As this coconut milk comes from Thailand, I've just discovered to my horror that the manufacturers of coconut milk from Thailand used monkeys to pick the coconuts from the coconut trees. Being vegan, I'm concerned about this, as I sometimes use this brand. What exactly is the situation?

Hello Caroline_2, thank you for your question. We understand that, as a vegan, you care about animal welfare and that you are bothered by the use of monkeys to harvest coconuts. As far as our own brands are concerned, farmers use coconut harvesting systems that are much more efficient than harvesting by monkeys. We harvest the nuts largely by machine and partly by hand. We also keep a close eye on what's going on in the field, as we have an office in Asia which also verifies compliance with our standards - this by employees who speak the language and know the cultures. Could it be that there have been quality problems with the coconut milk for a few weeks now? It used to have a different taste. Now the color is partly yellowish and has a strange aftertaste. 23:37 30463 30.04.2022 20300WR

Hello 19791978, thank you for your question. Can you please tell us the best-before date (BBD) and the lot number next to it? The latter usually begins with an L or there is a mixture of numbers and letters. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Hello 19791978, we haven't forgotten you! The clarifications with the supplier are taking longer. We hope to receive an answer in the next few days. Until then, please continue to be patient. Hope to see you soon! Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Hello 19791978, thank you for your feedback. The clarification with our specialist department took some time. We are sorry that we are only now getting back to you. Thanks to your information, we were able to test samples from the same production line. However, the product is obtained from the fibers of the coconut. For this reason, despite numerous safety precautions, it is unavoidable that some of the brown husk is also processed, which affects the color of the product. Furthermore, based on your description, we cannot rule out a separation of the fat due to temperature differences. We apologize for the resulting dissimilarities. We have informed all departments involved about your message. We are keeping a close eye on the issue to prevent discrepancies of this kind in the future. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Just a quick question: how come coconut milk can still be called "milk"? I thought it was forbidden. Thank you.

Good evening GastIn principle, the name "milk" is protected and authorized only for products obtained by milking the udder. However, there are exceptions for products "whose nature is well known due to its traditional use". These exceptions include "coconut milk", which can therefore continue to be called "coconut milk" despite the protection of the milk denomination. Best regardsFrederica

Hello. Thank you for your inquiry. In accordance with SR 817.022.016, a foodstuff is designated by its specific name. If the specific name is not prescribed by food law, the foodstuff must bear the designation established by commercial usage. In our view, the designation "coconut milk" falls into this category. In addition, the Ordinance on Foodstuffs and Utility Articles explicitly refers to Decision 2010/791/EU, which regulates the exceptions that can be used despite a possible protected designation. On the basis of these legal provisions, the designation "coconut milk" is correct. We hope you have found this information useful. With best regards, your M-Infoline team

Does Migros have any influence on the packaging? In my opinion, the switch to this plastic closure should not have been necessary. Apart from the current plastic issue, the packaging can no longer be stacked easily. It is intended for cooking and any leftovers can be stored in the fridge without the seal.

Hello Trilos, thank you for your message. Unfortunately, we have no say in this packaging as it is a branded product. The lid ensures a longer shelf life in the fridge. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

What exactly does "may contain sulphites" mean? Does it have it in it or not?
Thanks for an answer. By the way, the small pack (250 ml) doesn't say anything about it....

Hi guest
Thank you for your comment.
The Thai Kitchen packaging has been revised. It is possible that "old" products are still available in the stores. For this reason, it is possible that this note is not yet present on the 250ml.
The labeling for sulfite must be indicated if the concentration is more than 10mg/l. This is not the case with coconut milk. For safety reasons, however, we do not want to do without it.
We hope this helps you and wish you a good day.
Best regards from the M-Infoline team

Question about kaffir lime leaves (nothing like this to be found on Migipedia): Do they not exist at all anymore? You used to be able to find them at least in combination with lemongrass - now I search everywhere in vain...

Hello guest
Thank you for your request. We do not sell the kaffir lime leaves individually. However, you can buy them in combination with our Fresh Thai products (Thai Curry red, Thai Curry yellow and Thai Mix).

It's a shame they're no longer available like they used to be. I don't need the rest of the stuff from the Thai combos. They are also quite expensive.
