I work at HEKS/EPER and we have a project with traditional communities in Cerrado producing baru nuts, which supports biodiversity preservation and restoration of degraded areas. The cooperative already got certifications for exporting, as well as Brazilian organic certification. Would it be possible to talk to the person responsible for sourcing the baru nuts?

Why do you add gum arabic to such a good nut? I mean what for? At first I thought it was a second shell like peanuts until I read about the gum.

Hello Baniah, thank you for your patience. Gum arabic is a natural coating and thickening agent obtained from African acacia trees. The brown shell or skin of the baru nut is not related to this, it comes from the baru nut. The gum arabic serves as a natural "glue" so that we can salt the baru nut. Without the gum arabic, the salt would not stick to the nut. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
