I wanted to use the external SSD as a data backup and thought that I would have a speed advantage over an external HDD. My test showed: 10GB Office files from the 5 year old Thinkpad T460 with USB 3.0: to external Sandisk portable 1 TB SSD: 1min 50 to external Western Digital 5TB HDD: 2min 15 So the SSD was only marginally faster. Conclusion: If you have an older notebook like me, external SSDs don't seem to be worthwhile. What I also noticed negatively: The orange flap of the Sandisk smells unpleasantly of chemicals/plastic. Personally, I also didn't like the design of the Sandisk, especially the dark blue and black case with the "holes" looks outdated to me.
