Dear Migros team I am interested to know whether the deer was shot in Austria or slaughtered in some other way. This is important information for pregnant women because of the possible lead content...

Hello Miba21, thank you for your question. This deer was shot in the wild and may therefore contain lead residue. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Thank you very much for your comments. In fact, the schnitzel didn't kill me because it was frozen immediately after purchase and defrosted in the fridge as described and used immediately. Nevertheless, a loss of quality is to be expected if it is frozen and defrosted twice (I have worked in the food industry long enough to know this). So here's the question you didn't answer: Why does Migros sell the frozen meat defrosted? From the customer's point of view, it would make more sense to sell the meat frozen and let the customer decide for themselves whether they want to defrost it for immediate consumption or keep it in the freezer for a while. I can't shake the suspicion that, despite the (obligatory) declaration in the small print, the aim is to create the impression that the meat is fresh. As my example shows, it is easy to overlook.

Hello Federwolke! We need a large quantity for a national venison schnitzel campaign. Processing this quantity takes a certain amount of time, which is why we have to freeze the meat after processing and for transportation. Your input that we could also sell the meat frozen in this case makes sense to us. That's why we also have some frozen items in our game meat range. However, the majority of our customers prefer meat that can be prepared immediately after purchase, from the store to the table, so to speak. That's why we decided to offer the meat defrosted for this promotion. As you have seen for yourself, we declare this on the packaging. We can assure you that we are not trying to deceive you. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

During the campaign in September, I did what I do every fall: I stocked up for the whole season. Recently, I took a packet out of the freezer and only saw the note on the packaging that the product should not be refrozen when I opened it. Apart from the fact that it was my mistake not to read the small print when buying (you should now plan half a day instead of half an hour for shopping, there are so many traps lurking in the store!), I hereby ask those responsible why on earth Migros offers frozen, vacuum-packed meat for sale in the store UNFROZEN for transportation?

Hello Federwolke, unfortunately it is not possible for us to carry out a venison schnitzel campaign with only fresh products. The quantities required are too large. That is why we reserve venison slices in advance for such a campaign. These are professionally frozen, naturally very fresh, and can therefore be sold without hesitation. In this case, the label will state "defrosted, do not refreeze", as you have already seen. As a general rule, do not freeze meat twice. However, if the venison cutlet is frozen within the rotation period (use by) and is always well chilled beforehand, the product should be in perfect condition. When defrosting, pay attention to the following: defrost slowly in the refrigerator the day before and trust your nose when opening. If there is no unpleasant smell, the schnitzel can be prepared. Before marinating, briefly rinse the meat and dry it with kitchen paper. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
