On November 8, 2024, we made a purchase at Migros Glatt. We came across a random sample. Sampling is perfectly understandable for us.
What is less understandable is how Migros handles such random samples.
According to the enclosure in the appendix, a berry mix yogurt was mistakenly not registered for CHF 1.30, but a strawberry yogurt was registered twice for CHF 1.30, even though it was only available once. We had assumed that we had bought a strawberry yoghurt twice. Presumably the berry mix yoghurt was not in the right place. Conclusion 2 x Fr. 1.30 were correctly registered
Although Migros has not suffered any damage, we are checked every week; today for the 6th mail in a row. You can certainly understand that this is extremely annoying and embarrassing for us and that we see it as harassment, especially as we have been doing our weekly shopping exclusively at Migros for decades. We are still very attached to Migros, partly because I worked at FMCG for 20 years before I retired.
However, we are now asking ourselves whether Migros is still the right partner for us.

That's exactly why I avoid self-scanning like the plague. One small mistake and I'm pilloried. But if the cashier makes a mistake, it's Migros' problem. But that doesn't mean that I simply accept every mistake, no matter in whose favor.

i have now been checked 4 times in a row without a fault. i'm starting to feel like i've been "taken for a ride". at coop, i've hardly ever been checked since the start of self-scanning checkouts, you can count the number on one hand. at migros in the same period of time, i've been checked countless times. i understand that checks are important, but with such a high number, it's just annoying, especially when you've certainly never had anything to complain about more than 30 times +. (no, it's not an exaggeration, it's really true).

The handling problem with self-scanning doesn't just affect Migros, but all wholesalers, and they are ultimately powerless. Because let's not kid ourselves: Although the random checks are understandable, they are an alibi exercise in terms of their effect. After all, anyone who regularly steals and/or steals expensive products - and there are more of them than you might think - is unlikely to put them in their pockets on the first, second or third shift. But have you ever seen a shopping bag being emptied to check what's at the bottom? Shoplifting during self-scanning is and remains child's play, random checks or not. The major retailers have no choice but to offset the corresponding losses against the savings in personnel costs and adjust their business policy accordingly.
