1 question

How is it possible that a product with 77g of carbohydrates including 22g of sugar per 100, which contains glucose syrup has a NutriScore A?

Hi Stratos90, thanks for your question. The Nutri-Score allows you to quickly compare products in a category when you are shopping. So cereals with cereals, energy drinks with energy drinks, and so on. Nestlé Nesquik Cereals are low in fat and contain a lot of fiber compared to other cereals, so they get a Nutri-Score A. For more information on this topic, see the following link: https://www.blv.admin.ch/blv/it/home/lebensmittel-und-ernaehrung/ernaehrung/nutri-score.html. Sincerely, your M-Infoline team.

You can safely ignore the Nutri-Score, as it only weighs the composition of the nutritional values, but not where the nutrients actually come from. In other words, the Nutri-Score is not primarily about the ingredients, but about the distribution of macro and micronutrients. The fact that the whole thing is as absurd as it is problematic needs no further explanation. You could even say that the whole label is misleading. After all, the Nesquik example is a product that consists mainly of highly processed flour, sugar, semolina and syrup. The actual nutritional value (i.e. the value as a food) is more or less zero. So how does a Nutri-Score of A come about here? Well, vitamin and mineral supplements are given a very high weighting--regardless of whether these vitamins can be processed by the body at all (spoiler: they can't in the form of supplements).

Hello Stratos90, every simplified system has its weaknesses because not all factors are taken into account. Contrary to your assumption, however, vitamin and mineral supplements do not play a role, nor is the degree of processing taken into account. The Nutri-Score is merely a summary of relevant nutritional properties: the content of energy, saturated fatty acids, sugar, salt, protein, fiber and the proportion of vegetables and fruits, all per 100g. The "teething troubles" of the Nutri-Score assessment have since been rectified, and stricter requirements have applied since the beginning of the year. For this reason, Nesquik Cereal from Nestlé will carry a C in future if the recipe and nutritional values remain as they currently are. Best regards, Il tuo team M-Infoline
