1 question

Why does this product contain palm oil, which is demonstrably harmful to the environment? Are there no alternatives?

Firstly, palm oil is not harmful to the environment per se... illegal deforestation for the production of palm oil is. Palm oil is a very high-yielding oil compared to the production of other oils

Hello Elena20, of course Migros also regularly checks the recipes of its products and adapts them where it is possible and makes sense. For example, Migros' own industry has already replaced palm oil in a large number of products in recent years. New products in which we do not use palm oil are constantly being added.

However, it is also important to consider the other side of the coin: Palm oil is 5 to 10 times more productive than rapeseed or coconut oil, for example. This means that more land and agricultural inputs are required for cultivation. According to various scientific studies, sustainably sourced (certified) palm oil is therefore the most sustainable vegetable oil with the lowest emissions. Switching to other oils is therefore not a sustainable solution. The ETH and WWF also confirm that substituting palm oil does not protect the environment, but improving cultivation, standards and controls does.

Migros therefore pays particular attention to ensuring and committing to the use of sustainably cultivated palm oil.

Together with the WWF, Migros launched the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) in 2004. We can physically trace 100% of the palm oil used in our own food brands and work with our suppliers to improve living conditions and ecology on the plantations. In cooperation with our suppliers and theSwissPalm Oil Network, we ensure that no forests are cut down, but are better protected, that no peat bogs are destroyed and that human rights are not violated. The independent organization "Earthworm Foundation" actively supports us in this. You can find out more about this here.
