Bought today. A lot of the berries were already rotten. Is that normal?

Why are even the organic blueberries in a pack with a plastic lid (the non-organic ones are even more wrapped in plastic)? At the competition, I get organic blueberries in a cardboard box wrapped in plastic film. This generates significantly less plastic waste for me.

We bought blueberries yesterday. How is it possible that the date of August 5th is still on sale? The berries are shriveled and moldy. If you don't have such good eyesight, you're really screwed. And no, I can't bring them back, we won't go shopping again for another week.
