I consciously pay attention to sustainably caught tuna and have opted for cans with the label "Individually caught with a fishing rod". However, I noticed a contradictory statement on your website m-check (also mentioned on the can): - The most important characteristics / production process: caught with a fishing rod, sustainable fishing - Origin/information: .... with tuna, caught ... with hooks and longlines. with hooks and longlines. What is correct now? It would be nice if the information on the product was clear and reliable. THANK YOU for an honest declaration of your products in the future.
Hello NachhaltigFrage, thank you for your question. Pole-and-line fishing is a traditional and sustainable fishing method. The tuna are attracted by small bait fish that are released into the water next to the boat. This is done in conjunction with spraying water on the surface to create the illusion of a large school of bait fish, which fuels the hunting instinct of the tuna. The line is not equipped with a barb, but with a simple hook that allows the fish to be released from the hook as quickly as possible. Up to 20 fishermen per boat stand next to each other with a two to three meter long fishing rod and can pull one tuna after another out of the sea using this method. This fishing method avoids bycatch of turtles, sharks and dolphins, generates a good income for the fishermen and also creates jobs. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
