should be banned due to MISERABLE animal welfare conditions in brazil. migros please justify?!
Hello an7, thank you for your message and for your patience. The vast majority of the meat in Migros comes from Switzerland: almost 100 percent of our pork and veal comes from Switzerland, 90 percent of our beef and 80 percent of our chicken. A large proportion of this is also label meat (IP-Suisse or organic). Anyone who values animal welfare will therefore still find an extremely wide range of products at Migros.
A few years ago, we actually promised that all meat imports for Migros would have to comply with Swiss animal welfare standards. We were able to achieve this for various animal products, but unfortunately not everywhere - despite a great deal of effort. The reasons for this: in some cases, we only purchase cuts and are therefore unable to set requirements for the entire husbandry abroad. We also only purchase certain imports for a limited period of time. Even then, suppliers are often not prepared to convert the entire production to our requirements. In addition, Swiss animal welfare legislation is tailored to conditions in Switzerland and cannot simply be transferred to conditions abroad in every case.
However, we will continue to impose animal welfare requirements on imported products in the future. We have defined minimum requirements for our imported meat in our raw material strategies and value-added criteria for suppliers for individual programs. Animal welfare and ecological conditions in the countries of origin are taken into account.
We fully understand that animal welfare is important to some of our customers, just like it is to you. That's why we offer the M-Check animal welfare as a quick guide. This assessment is carried out by the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences (HAFL). It is possible that imported meat has a lower rating than conventional Swiss meat. Thanks to the M-Check, it is possible to make an informed purchasing decision. We hope that we have helped you with this information. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
Dear Migros
Thank you for the answer and the transparency. I think that Migros should adhere to ethical guidelines (regardless of demand). I am glad that steps are being taken in this direction. Please stay tuned, this is a socially important and good development and the influence of large distributors like Migros, which has been shaping Swiss consumer behavior for years, should not be underestimated.

I would like to ask again why this turkey breast is no longer available in Wil SG?
Hello indios, unfortunately the demand for this product was very low, but spoilage was very high. For this reason, M-Budget turkey breast has been removed from the range. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
Thanks for the feedback. It's a pity......

Where is this product in 9500 Wil?
...in the chiller cabinets, Centre Brügg (Aare), Marin Centre (Neuchâtel-Fribourg) 🤣 🙋🏻♀️
Not all of your favorite products can be offered to Wil, sometimes you just have to accept that a product is not available in "your" store.
I also have to go to another (larger) store more often for a favorite product or order it online (it's in the range) if you love it so much.
Was ALWAYS on the shelf....

Where is the meat imported from and how are the animals kept there?

In any case, LeShop says: "Made in Switzerland with meat from *see package". A-ha - on the packaging!
Hi Megrussszzz, the meat for the M-Budget turkey breast comes from countries such as Hungary, France, Germany etc., depending on availability. As the origin varies, the online channel does not state the origin but refers to the packaging. There you can see where the meat actually comes from. Unfortunately, Swiss poultry production in the charcuterie only covers about half of the demand, so we are dependent on imported meat. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

I actually wanted to draw your attention to the following:
The declaration requirements also apply to food purchased via online retailers.

Dear Megrussszzz, thank you very much for your comment. We are currently clarifying with various internal departments and suppliers how we can resolve this issue with the online declaration where the meat comes from different countries of origin. This process will take some time, so we are not yet able to give you a definitive answer. Thank you for your understanding and best regards, your M-Infoline team

Thank you very much for your reply so far, which seems very promising. I think a double or multiple declaration, such as for organic lemons (see LeShop), would be an acceptable solution to this problem. Such a declaration would probably not yet fully comply with the legal requirements, but at least all possible countries of origin would be clearly visible to consumers. Hopefully this will be implemented as soon as possible so that customers can really decide for themselves which transport routes they want to accept for their products. Thank you for your prompt action in this regard.
Thank you very much for your suggestion Megrussszzz. We will gladly take this on board and inform those responsible. We will endeavor to find a satisfactory solution with all parties as quickly as possible in order to offer a legally compliant solution on the online channels as well. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
