By law, the alcohol content of fruit vinegar must not exceed 0.5% volume and that of white vinegar, 1% volume. Balsamic vinegar must not contain more than 1.5% alcohol by volume. Table vinegar without colorant would be completely colorless (like water). A slightly colored vinegar is preferred by customers.
