Hello, are there different types of cheese in a pack or just one? What types of cheese are used? Thank you very much

Hi dida85, thank you for your inquiry. The product is made from two different types of cheese. These are extra-hard cheeses made from pasteurized milk. These raw materials are produced in Switzerland using microbial rennet. They mature for over three months in the cellar, which gives them a typical aroma. Hopefully we were able to help you with our answer. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Why does this cheese go moldy every (!!!) time immediately after opening? So annoying!!!!!!

Hello ZucchiniUrsel, thank you for sharing your experience with us. In view of your description, we understand your annoyance. We would like to get to the bottom of the cause of the mold infestation. Are you still in possession of a pack by any chance? If so, please let us know the best-before date and the batch number. You will find the latter next to the best-before date. It usually starts with the letter L or a mixture of letters and numbers. Thank you for your support. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Hello, thank you very much for your reply. The best before date is 18.10.2024 and batch number would be: L1783815.
It usually takes 1-3 days after opening for this cheese to smell and taste moldy. I have rarely experienced it differently.

Best regards

Hello ZucchiniUrsel, thank you for your feedback. No incidents were detected during this production. A gas mixture is injected into each bag to remove the residual oxygen in the bag. This is because mold needs moisture (which is naturally present in the cheese) and oxygen (which is present in the ambient air) in order to grow. During production, employees carry out several checks to ensure that the gas is injected correctly and the bags are sealed properly. If any defects are found, production is stopped and the products are not marketed. In this production, all checks carried out were compliant.

The fact that the musty taste appears within three days of opening the bag leads us to believe that the cause of the mold growth is that the product was exposed to the ambient air after opening. We recommend that you store the bag outside the refrigerator as little as possible (an increase in temperature causes the cheese to heat up, which causes it to lose water and thus gives mold fungi the opportunity to develop).

We also recommend that consumers squeeze out as much air as possible by hand before closing the top of the bag. The use of a clip also ensures that the pouch is properly sealed.
Eating quickly after opening also helps to limit this risk. The fineness of the grains makes them more susceptible to the development of mold.

We hope that these tips will help to improve your experience with this product and wish you a pleasant day. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Is it possible that sheep's or goat's cheese is used in this grated cheese? I have bought the cheese twice over a longer period of time and it has "crumbled" each time. Too bad. Thanks for the answer!

Hello MJH13, thank you for your question. We are happy to inform you that we do not use goat's or sheep's cheese in this product. As cheese is a natural product, variations in the flavor profile are conceivable. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Adaptation to competition.

The price of M-Budget grated cheese has been increased from 3.00 to 3.15 and the 300g is no longer available for 3.00 but only 250g. How can this specific price increase be explained?

Hello ioh, thank you for your question. The item actually weighed 250 g when it was launched in 2016. We have not had any price increases since that date, the price has always been CHF 3.00. Our purchase price has increased by significantly more than our surcharge from the beginning of 2022 alone, so we were forced to increase the price due to the increase in procurement prices. As it is a cheese mixture and it is not clear from which varieties: Is this cheese vegetarian or is there animal rennet?

Hello shysie, M-Budget grated cheese is made using microbial rennet. You can also find this and other information on our leaflet "Cheese without animal rennet". You can always find the latest version of our leaflet on the Migros website: https://www.migros.ch/de/kontakt/fachstelle-ernaehrung/merkblaetter-ernaehrung.html. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

thanks! i was just about to ask about the lab. it would be good if this were declared more often. this is becoming increasingly important for many people!

Hello Sheily, it is currently not possible to tell whether a cheese was made with animal rennet or a rennet substitute, as most cheeses do not have a list of ingredients (which is correct under food law, by the way). In future, however, Migros will include a corresponding note on the packaging of cheeses made with microbial rennet. This information will also be available in the product information that is displayed online. (You can find an example here: https://produkte.migros.ch/m-classic-gouda-scheiben). However, the changeover to this new, transparent type of declaration will take some time, especially when it comes to adapting the packaging. Until then (and also afterwards) you can also refer to our information sheet "Dairy products without animal rennet". Here is the link: https://www.migros.ch/de/services/kundendienst/fachstelle-ernaehrung/merkblaetter.html. As you can see from the fact sheet, M-Budget grated cheese is made with microbial rennet. @M-Infoline Here is the correct link, as yours produces an error: Nutrition factsheets Best regardsFrederica

Has the recipe changed? Over the last few weeks, we have repeatedly found M-Budget grated cheese that smelled of "cowshed". This never used to be the case and I won't be buying this cheese again!

Hello Nidwaldner007, there have been no changes to the recipe for this product. As cheese is a natural, living and artisanal product, you can never definitively rule out the possibility of products evolving. A variety of circumstances can have a sensory impact on a product such as cheese. There are also differences in taste for geographical reasons, as cheese dairies in different cantons do not obtain the same quality of milk. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Good evening Is the cheese only from Switzerland? What type of cheese is used? Tastes much better than before.

Hello portu1, thank you very much for your feedback. I'm glad you like the M-Budget grated cheese! We only use Swiss cheese for this grated cheese. We use different types of extra hard cheese. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Hello↵It's a pity that the M Budget grated cheese is not only made from Swiss cheese. Cheese from Czechia is declared. 😟↵Why? We should use our products 😀↵

Hello Oberdurma, pure Swiss cheese and, above all, varietal cheese has its price. As we target price-sensitive customers with M-Budget products, the recipes are optimized accordingly. For this reason, this grated cheese contains foreign grated cheese in addition to Swiss grated cheese. If you are looking for a pure Swiss extra hard grated cheese, the Sbrinz grated cheese is a good choice. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Bought 2 packs on Saturday 25.4.2020. Both were full of mold. Date of sale : 1.5.2020 Date of consumption : 6.5.2020 Why?

Hello Fortuna82, thank you for your question. We're sorry that you weren't able to enjoy the cheese. Grated cheese is susceptible to mold due to its large surface area. Even a small, inconspicuous hole in the packaging is enough for the mold, which is present everywhere in the air, to get into the product. Even slight fluctuations in temperature and a small amount of moisture, which is always present in the packaging, allow the fungi to thrive. The following applies to mold: it can only develop if air is present. Mold cannot develop in oxygen-free packaging. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

It's strange that people keep complaining about this product and have been doing so for several years. Nothing has been done so far. Mold is apparently not a problem with other manufacturers. At least we have never had it. Even on the expiration date, the product was perfectly fine. It seems that the health of the consumer is not the top priority here. If this problem had occurred with a Selection product, something would have been done a long time ago!

Hello Gloria31, thank you for your question. Of course, the health of our consumers is our top priority. However, grated cheese is susceptible to mold due to its surface. Even a small, inconspicuous hole in the packaging is enough for the mold, which is present everywhere in the air, to get into the product. We also had to carry out a technical intervention and replace a welding jaw. Your item may have been affected and no longer sealed properly. The following applies to mold: It can only develop if air is present. Mold cannot develop in oxygen-free packaging. As a general rule, you may return products of unsatisfactory quality to the store. If necessary, you will receive a replacement or a refund. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Well, the problem has existed for several years. Either the product or the packaging is inferior. As soon as you know that such a problem exists, you have to take care of it. This was extremely neglected here. It really shouldn't be the case that customers have to store the cheese in the freezer even though the packaging says +5°C. So it's not enough to simply copy an answer from a previous post and paste it here. Of course it is the easier way, but it clearly shows that customers are not that important to you. Otherwise you wouldn't need several years...

Hi Gloria31, this is a general problem with grated cheese, not just the M-Budget product. We have not received any customer feedback on this issue in the last 6 months (apart from the last comment here on Migipedia). We assure you that we are keeping a constant eye on this issue (especially as it is well known with grated cheese) in order to be able to intervene directly in the event of deviations. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
