Question about the product M-Budget potatoes 5 kg Agata from agrolog L167616. Were the potatoes sprayed or treated with gas after harvesting or were they packed without treatment after harvesting? Can I be sure that these potatoes were grown in Switzerland or were they only packed in Switzerland?

Hello franzrobert, thank you for your inquiry. The potatoes are treated with chlorpropham (CIPC). This sprout inhibitor ensures that the potatoes do not sprout in spring and that starch is converted into sugar, which can lead to the formation of acrylamide during preparation at high temperatures, which is considered "probably carcinogenic". The European Food Safety Authority has determined that CIPC may have a potentially harmful effect on health. The sprout inhibitor is therefore no longer approved in the EU. A re-evaluation is also currently underway in Switzerland. Migros and the industry welcome this procedure. We assume that CIPC will probably no longer be approved in Switzerland either at the beginning of 2020. With the exception of organic potatoes, the sprout inhibitor is also used in our potatoes. Migros supports the approach of seeking and promoting alternatives to the use of CIPC. M-Budget potatoes are grown and processed in Switzerland. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
