Good day
This coffee tastes excellent, but I have heard a lot of bad things about decaffeination. I would therefore like to know which decaffeination process is used here (not benzene or other chemicals)?
Thanks in advance and best regards
Philip M.
Hello guest
We're glad you like the Zaun coffee. It is decaffeinated with dichloromethane, which is the most common method.
The green coffee is first tested by the manufacturer and then again at our incoming goods department. After decaffeination, we also analyze the caffeine content and residual solvent content of each batch. This enables us to ensure that the coffee meets the requirements regarding caffeine and dichloromethane residues.
We hope that our answer has been helpful and will be happy to answer any further questions you may have.
Best regards

Why don't they switch to the new alternative and above all solvent-free processes in the long term? (e.g. with water)
Dear guest
Thank you for your question.
The carbon dioxide process is used for our decaffeinated coffees. In this process, the coffee beans, which are pre-treated with steam, are rinsed with carbon dioxide (CO2) at a pressure of 73 to 300 bar, which removes the caffeine.
We hope this information helps you and look forward to your next visit to Migros.
Best regards

So what now? Is it filtered with dichloromethane or carbon dioxide?
Dear guest
Decaffeination is carried out using the carbon dioxide process.
We hope this helps you and wish you a pleasant rest of the week.

It's a shame, I've noticed that Migros has made the cheaper coffees worse in recent years. But the quality of the more expensive coffees could be improved. I don't understand this business philosophy!!! Migros could clearly set itself apart from the competition....

Thank you for taking the time to write to us.
We have not made any significant changes to our recipes in recent years.
Only the Boncampo coffee recipe has been changed slightly to optimize the taste.
However, we would be happy to pass on your input to our development department so that they can incorporate it into a revised recipe if necessary.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us - we are here for you.
