I recently learned that many tea bags contain plastics that release micro- and nanoplastics when processed with water. This fennel tea is wrapped in paper and other plant fibers. However, small amounts of plastic are often added to this packaging. Is this the case with Klostergarten and other Migros organic teas?
Hello gonadine, thank you for your inquiry. The double-chamber tea bags for the Klostergarten and Migros organic tea products consist of natural wood and other plant fibers in addition to the thread and label, to which minimal amounts of a so-called wet strength agent are added during production to make the filter paper tear-resistant. This binds inseparably with the paper fiber and is insoluble in water. Unfortunately, it is not yet technically possible to produce tea bags, coffee filters or handkerchiefs without wet strength agents. The products would disintegrate on contact with moisture. Nevertheless, we are continuing to monitor the issue closely in order to improve both our products and the materials used in production. Incidentally, the thread material is cotton and the label is made of paper. The tea bags are harmless to health according to all national and international European standards. You can buy the tea in our stores in Switzerland. If you want to order from abroad, you can do so in Germany via migros.de.
We also have sales outlets in France, on the border with Switzerland. If you live in another country, there is unfortunately no possibility of ordering, as we do not deliver abroad.
