The label on the rapeseed oil has been illegible for some time now. I can no longer write an opening date on it that remains legible. Even a permanent maker doesn't stick. If a permanent maker no longer sticks, then it is a PFAS-like substance. Why does Migros use such problematic materials for this bottle?

Hi Civitas, thank you for your message and for your patience. The clarifications on this took some time - please accept our apologies. We understand your concerns about the rapeseed oil label and the difficulties you are having labeling with a permanent marker. We confirm that we have not made any changes to the label. The glossy paper with glossy varnish used may be the cause of the handwritten note not sticking. We assure you that we only use packaging that is suitable and approved for food. The varnish used is also PFAS-free. Tests have shown that both ballpoint pens and permanent markers adhere to the label if the writing is allowed to dry for 1-2 minutes. We hope this information will help you. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

See example. Is that legible for you? The pen used is new and writes perfectly on all other media, only the rapeseed oil has a "sealed" non-writable surface.

Hello Civitas, thank you very much for your feedback and the photo. Your objections are understandable. The label does indeed not stick. Unfortunately, we cannot explain why this is the case - especially as there have been no changes to the label. Nevertheless, we are keeping an eye on the issue. If we identify a specific trigger, we will look into appropriate solutions. We hope you find our approach helpful. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Is "hexane" used in the production of this oil (common in the production of vegetable oils)? Where exactly is this oil produced?

Hello MN55803, thank you for your inquiry. We are happy to confirm that no hexane is used in the production of rapeseed oil. The seeds are pressed and processed in Switzerland. We hope this information is helpful for you. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

1/2 liter for a two-person household is too much if you don't want to use just one oil for the whole month. We have five to seven oils in our kitchen, so I usually have to throw away more than half of a 1/2 liter bottle after about 40 days. When will Migros also offer this oil in a 250 ml bottle?

Hi Civitas, thank you very much for your feedback. According to consultation with the specialist agency, oil can be kept for several months. Rapeseed oil that has already been opened can be kept for around 6 to 12 months - provided it is well sealed and stored in a cool place. In addition, the unit of 250 ml is not a standard commercial measure. The standard is 1 l or sometimes 50 cl. Those responsible are aware of your input and are happy to carry out tests. We ask for your understanding that we cannot promise an effective introduction at present. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Thank you very much for your answer. I have to disagree about the shelf life. Opened oil becomes rancid after around 2 months, depending on the type, as it oxidizes with the oxygen introduced by repeated opening. The healthy unsaturated fatty acids in particular are responsible for this. Therefore, 250 ml bottles would be the best choice for small households. There are more small households today than ever before.

Closure as unprofessional as before. Shouldn't be a problem. Had to use a screwdriver to loosen the retaining ring!

Hello ANG3, thank you for your message. Oh dear, we regret that you had this experience with our product. We have informed the specialist department about your report: After consultation, we have not received any reports of this kind to date. May we therefore ask you to provide us with the best-before date and the batch/lot number? The batch/lot number is generally placed next to the best-before date. It usually starts with the letter L or there is a mixture of letters and numbers. This gives us the opportunity to make further clarifications for you. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Thanks, LA 080225, expiration 2/25, I think the retaining ring is too strong and the aluminum thread too weak and only about once all the way around.

Hello ANG3, thank you very much for your feedback and for submitting the data. We very much appreciate your help. As promised, we have made further enquiries with the relevant specialist department. The samples we received from the same production series proved to be flawless. We also found no irregularities in the associated production documents. In view of these results, we cannot explain the reason for the discrepancies you describe. We will keep an eye on your information regarding the retaining ring and the aluminum thread. If we identify a specific cause, we will make adjustments. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that your experience with us will be positive again in the future. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Is the oil cold-pressed? The description says "processed"... If not, what is the production process and how much is the oil heated?

Hello MN55803, thank you for your inquiry. We always indicate the processing method for cold-pressed oils on the packaging. We do not do this for refined (hot-pressed) oils because it is not necessary from a food law perspective. As a temperature of approx. 100° C is generated when pressing rapeseed in this variant, we are not allowed to label it as cold-pressed. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

How high can the oil be heated when cooking or baking?

Hello zinnie, thank you for your inquiry. Rapeseed oil is ideal for cold cooking, as this is where the two fatty acids (omega 3 and 6) are most effective. The specification for maximum heating at 180 °C refers to frying. This means that this heat should only be applied for a short time. You can therefore also use rapeseed oil in this area. Basically, all fatty acids suffer when frying any oil. The unsaturated fatty acids are the first to react and the omega 3 and 6 fatty acids are the most sensitive. The longer the heating process takes, the more fatty acids are affected, but not necessarily all of them, depending on the frying time. Rapeseed oil is not suitable for deep-frying, as the high heat of 170 °C lasts for a long time. We recommend HOLL rapeseed oil 1 L (art. no. 1033.220) for this purpose. Is this rapeseed oil cold-pressed? Unfortunately, it is not mentioned anywhere, neither on the bottle nor in the product description.

...but further down in a very long reasoned answer from M-Infoline on 3.2.2014. In short: It is not cold-pressed.

Thanks Frederica for the tip, I didn't scroll down that far😊 it's still a shame that it's not declared on the bottle.

If there is no indication on the bottle, oils are NOT cold-pressed for me, otherwise it is written on it to sell it at a higher price.

Hello B2bB22, thank you for your request. We are glad that you have already found the answer thanks to our active support. As a general rule, we indicate the processing method for cold-pressed oils on the packaging. We do not do this for refined (hot-pressed) oils because it is not necessary from a food law perspective. Since the variant shown above produces a temperature of approx. 100° C when pressing rapeseed, we are not allowed to label it as cold-pressed. Best regards, your M-Infoline team

I have had the same problem with the screw cap for months. The metal cap does not fit on the glass thread. Like two different designers. Lot no. LB 120722

Hello ANG3, thank you very much for your message. Unfortunately, this lot number is already the new version with a specified direction of rotation. Could you therefore send us the bottle? Please write the following address on the parcel and hand it in at the post office or free of charge to your branch's customer service: Migros-Genossenschafts-Bund M-Infoline / Reference 20220217-0738 Limmatstrasse 152 8031 Zurich Thank you for your help! Best regards, your M-Infoline team

Hello ANG3, thank you for delivering the bottle. The clarifications revealed that our initial information was incorrect. Your bottle was still from the old production run. Those responsible recognized from the closure that it had been turned in the wrong direction at least once and could therefore no longer close properly. This problem is virtually eliminated with the new closure. We will get back to you by e-mail. Best regards, your M-Infoline team
