Why have the resealable lids been replaced by aluminum? it's just pointless and really impractical. These are products that you don't use up immediately. If you cover them with a silicone lid, I can no longer see the expiration date.

Hello colorbox, thank you for your question. We made a change as the current market is moving towards packaging reduction, recycling and reusable lids. The best-before date refers to the closed state of a product. Once opened, products such as crème fraîche should be consumed quickly. It is generally difficult to say how long the contents of an opened pack can still be consumed, as this depends on various factors: correct storage, refrigerator temperature setting, hygienic handling, etc. You should rely on your senses after opening. Hi Chloe Thank you very much for your feedback. I am aware that fresh products should be used up as quickly as possible... but resealable would be very useful. However, resealable would be very useful, especially for larger containers. I can't understand the answer that the change was made to reduce packaging. Replacing a lid that is made of the same material as the container with a non-closable aluminum lid is incomprehensible and doesn't make much sense. As I have now discovered, you have also introduced this for other products such as quark containers etc. What sense does it make if the customer now has to use transparent or aluminum foil to close the container after opening it, because your version with the aluminum lid is no good? With this useless aluminum lid, the food spoils faster, so you generate food waste. I really hope that the management will reconsider this annoying change for the customer. As I read on Migipedia, a lot of customers are annoyed about it. I think Migros could start somewhere else when it comes to reducing packaging instead of removing resealable lids. Maybe organic cucumbers without plastic packaging or something?

This topic of plastic and cucumbers has become boring. Cucumbers in plastic last much longer than cucumbers without plastic. It feels like they are often limp after 1 day and thus generate food waste.

This claim by the packaging and plastic lobby does not become any truer if it is constantly repeated. The decomposition process of a cucumber progresses in exactly the same way, often even creating a more favorable microclimate in the plastic because there is no air exchange. A cucumber that has gone "limp" is not bad, it has only released a small proportion of its approximately 95% water into the surrounding air - that's all. So the cucumber parser is only intended to fool customers into thinking that the cucumber is fresher. With obvious success, as you can read here again and again. As far as the aluminum lid is concerned, I've often voiced my criticism here too. Aluminum is pretty much the most resource-, water- and energy-consuming material you can use, much worse than plastic. I haven't even mentioned the scars that bauxite mining (the raw material needed to produce aluminum) leaves behind in the landscape. Aluminum should actually be banned in the food industry, but even there there are enough influential lobbyists in politics...

When the Hirz brand abolished the plastic lids on cottage cheese, for example, they at least offered a reusable lid for purchase. I have not yet found a lid that fits on these semicircular corners of your quark. I can't understand where the reduction in packaging is supposed to take place in this case. Hello colorbox, this is of course not the point. We recently introduced these reusable lids: https://www.migros.ch/de/product/704527600000. So you don't have to use additional aluminum foil or cling film. You could save on plastic for cucumbers. However, we deliberately use plastic for imported cucumbers to avoid food waste. This is because packaged cucumbers stay fresh for much longer than non-packaged ones. Best regards, Chloe

Hello everyone I also think the changeover is totally stupid. Reducing packaging is all well and good, but where it makes sense! But it may well be that you don't need 250 grams of low-fat quark at once. Up to now, the plastic lid could be used to reseal the packaging. Now it remains halfway open with the annoying aluminum lid. Chloe, your answer makes no sense at all and is only interesting from a "sales" point of view. Of course, Migros sells more goods this way because they certainly spoil more quickly. Perhaps you should pay more attention to the issue of food waste during the next changeover - instead of just looking at recycling.

My suggestion would be to produce reusable, dishwasher-safe lids to fit quark and the like. Coop has done this for yogurt etc. In my opinion, these are more hygienic than these silicone caps.
