Why doesn't Migros sell halal meat and halal chicken, even though it sells many ethnic products? However, there are many Muslim consumers in Switzerland.

Hello ffd_7, it is possible to produce halal-certified meat in Switzerland. However, this differs from the ritual "slaughter". The basis for meat production in Switzerland is always the Animal Welfare Act, which strictly prohibits the slaughter of animals without prior stunning. For this reason, we do not offer halal meat. Kind regards, Susi
And how does half-meat comply with animal welfare legislation?
Hello Charleston, according to the Swiss Animal Welfare Act (Art. 178), all vertebrates and crustaceans must be stunned before bleeding. As yet, there are no uniform standards for halal products that are checked during certification. There can therefore be several halal seals on the market. Some halal seals allow certain stunning methods, while others only recognize stunning-free slaughter. In Switzerland, the latter (slaughtering) is prohibited. Migros has decided for the moment not to include any meat products in its range that are clearly dedicated to a religious orientation, including halal meat. Kind regards, Alex

We don't all eat the halal version in switzerland like in the muslim countries, but it is still halal because it is not legal in switzerland to slaughter without stunning. that's why it is also halal if it is stunned and slaughtered.

Hello Santo66, thank you for your question. Migros has also decided not to include any meat products in its range that have a religious orientation, including halal meat. This means that imports are also out of the question for us. Kind regards, Chloe

I think it's good that Migros has clearly decided against this 👍🏻 At least there's a bit of dignity for the animals...

Think of people who have to shop in Germany to find halal products Migros also sells halal meat in its stores in Muslim countries.
I think it's good that Migros doesn't support meat from slaughtered animals. There are Turkish stores in larger towns for this kind of thing, for example
