Hollandaise sauce 250 ml from Thomy (a Swiss product!) at Edeka in Germany 0.99 cents. At Migros at Stadelhofen 3.80 CHF. Why is that? How can this be explained?

Unfair grab for customers' wallets! Flour, oil, coffee, toilet paper, gas and so on: many things have become more expensive in recent weeks. K-Tipp compared the current purchase and sales prices. Conclusion: Most price increases are unjustified. Retailers have tried to give the impression in recent weeks that price increases are unavoidable. Migros CEO Fabrice Zumbrunnen said in an interview with the AWP agency: "We have been confronted with rising raw material and energy costs since the fall. The war in Ukraine has exacerbated the situation." And Urs Riedener, head of the dairy products manufacturer Emmi, announced price increases for milk in March, even though Swiss farmers are not receiving more money for their milk. Are the price increases justified? K-Tipp wanted to find out for sure. It took a close look at the product ranges of Coop, Ikea, Landi, Lidl, Migros, Galaxus and other retailers. Where were there surcharges between January and April that were not justified? To find out, K-Tipp consulted the producer and import prices from the Federal Statistical Office. Example: In the case of flour, the producer price indicates how much money mills in Switzerland receive from bakeries for their flour. Result: K-Tipp found 36 products for which the store prices were higher than would be justified on the basis of the producer or import prices (see table in PDF). In some cases, the mark-ups were many times higher than the producers' price increases. Two examples: - Lidl increased the price of "Vita d'Or" rapeseed oil from Germany by 70 centimes, or 28.1 percent. Coop and Migros are selling some types of spaghetti and penne up to a third more expensive than last year, with producer prices remaining almost the same. Cereals are not more expensive, but bread is! Various retailers have increased the prices of bread products. Lidl, for example, added 9.2 percent to the price of Ruchbrot Panellino. The prices for bread grain have remained more or less unchanged since the beginning of the year. Fritz Glauser is President of the Grain Producers Association. He says: "It can't be down to the grain if bread is getting more expensive." Swiss farmers have been selling their bread grain to the mills at a constant price of around 50 francs per 100 kilograms. And imported grain has hardly risen in price because the federal government has lowered protective tariffs. According to Glauser, flour accounts for less than 20 percent of the retail price of bread on average. More than 80 percent is accounted for by costs for packaging, transport, staff and advertising as well as the stores' margins. The retailers justify their mark-ups with general developments. Migros cites higher transport and energy costs, a lack of shipping containers and poor harvests last year. Coop also mentions increased packaging costs. Lidl refers to higher raw material prices. Heating costs are also rising sharply! Living has also become more expensive: 3000 liters of heating oil cost around 3000 francs at Migrol and Agrola at the beginning of January. At the end of March it was 4200 francs. Gas has also become more expensive: the gas companies Energie 360 (City of Zurich), Energie Uster ZH and Regio Energie Solothurn increased their prices by 16 to 27 percent as of April 1 compared to January. However, according to the Federal Statistical Office, the import price of crude oil and natural gas has only risen by 2.9 percent since the beginning of the year. Energie Uster nevertheless claims that purchase prices have risen. Energie 360 writes that Swiss biogas is also added to the natural gas. It is therefore not possible to directly compare production and sales prices. Wood pellets have also become more expensive: a K-Tipp reader from Pratteln BL paid a price of CHF 320 per tonne a year ago. Now he is expected to pay 474 francs according to the offer. The wood pellet industry association justifies the surcharges with supply difficulties. Daniel Lampart, chief economist at the Federation of Swiss Trade Unions, says: "I am convinced that many companies see the Ukraine conflict as a good opportunity to increase profits." High profits at Coop and Migros! On paper, Coop and Migros are self-help organizations for cooperative members and do not aim to make a profit. However, both major distributors make high profits every year, including last year: according to the annual report, Coop's operating profit amounted to CHF 2.4 billion and Migros' to CHF 2.1 billion. There would therefore be plenty of financial leeway to avoid immediately raising prices in the event of small price increases from suppliers. Volg achieved an operating profit of 30 million francs and Spar Switzerland 28 million francs. Landi, Aldi, Lidl and Ikea do not disclose their profit figures for Switzerland. Source: K-Tipp 09/2022 from 03.05.2022 Christian Gurtner & Jimmy Sauter. Comments on this article: This is getting down to business! Many pensioners and families with low incomes otherwise have to turn over every franc before it can be spent. These massive and sometimes unjustified price increases in all areas are an outrage. I think the major distributors also have a social responsibility towards consumers. This is how people are really driven into poverty. I hope the price watchdog can have a say in this. You're forced to shop in neighboring Germany. By Rentner1 15.05.2022, 09:34 Pure rip-off! I'm sure that the wholesalers still have stocks that don't justify a price mark-up. Also, new orders have not just been placed in the last two months. There are price agreements. At most, a price mark-up would be justified for the transportation of goods. The Ukraine war is now being used as a cover to skim off the top and achieve higher margins. This is unfair and will take its revenge. Not surprising when the Swiss shop in Germany. By Rentner1 15.05.2022, 09:24 Simply terrible! Not only is the federal government throwing away tons of money on nonsensical things (at our expense, mind you, and under whatever guise, such as increasing personnel, warmongering, "climate" and energy games, even more vaccines, CoronaApp updates, etc.), but now the economy is following suit. At some point this will take its revenge because wages will not rise with it. By Barbara 05.05.2022, 09:43 Consumer rip-off! May the K-tipp please stay tuned, in favor of the consumers. Thank you. Money corrupts character. The important thing for retailers, petrol suppliers etc. is profits, profit and bonuses. Profits, profit and bonuses. They are only using the Ukraine war as a pretext. Shameful and greedy By fraenkyboy 04.05.2022, 22:52 No more taboos! Nowadays everything is allowed, there are no more taboos. No one is ashamed anymore if they have done something reprehensible, everyone just looks out for themselves. We have become a predominantly godless people, what does the future hold for us? There are price differences here too, which means I now buy these products elsewhere. 😒 😞 😔 https://migipedia.migros.ch/en/157215100000 Price 1.90 https://migipedia.migros.ch/en/157215200000 Price 1.90 https://migipedia.migros.ch/en/157215300000 Price 2.10 https://www.aldi-now.ch/de/bon-ri-express-reis-langkornreis/8899480125441 Price 1.59 https://www.aldi-now.ch/de/bon-ri-express-reis-basmatireis/8899480190977 Price 1.59 https://www.aldi-now.ch/de/bon-ri-express-reis-mediterrane-1479 Price 1.69 https://www.aldi-now.ch/de/bon-ri-express-reis-asiatisch-1477 Price 1.69 https://www.aldi-now.ch/de/bon-ri-express-reis-mexican-1480 Price 1.69 https://www.coop.ch/de/lebensmittel/vorraete/grundnahrungsmittel/reis/langkorn-vitamin-camolino/prix-garantie-langkornreis-express/p/6696981 Price 1.60 https://www.coop.ch/de/lebensmittel/vorraete/grundnahrungsmittel/reis/basmati-parfum/prix-garantie-basmatireis-express/p/6696982 Price 1.60
Ohaa!!! I already suspected that some people would simply add a surcharge because everyone is doing it at the moment, and the customer is more likely to accept it now than later, even if there is not such a big increase in the price of the product. Thanks for the report, which is confirmed by KTipp.
But the price of Ktipp and such newspapers has risen... people don't like to say that. German editions and Ktipp also have a price difference. Especially the price of durum wheat semolina for pasta as an example shows how you can do simple clickbait...

Yes, Ktipp, Saldo etc. have become more expensive, but they have informed subscribers of this and the reasons, as far as I know. And Ktipp & Co. don't go up in price all the time like food, but only when there's no other way. In the case of food, it's obvious to me that consumers are being ripped off with flimsy excuses or that prices are automatically raised every time something happens in the world (as long as the margin is right). What do you mean by "German editions and Ktipp also have a price difference"? I don't understand, sorry. It's well known that magazines and newspapers are cheaper in Germany than in Switzerland. You can see it when you look at the prices on a magazine (EUR/CHF). What do you mean by "the price of durum wheat semolina for pasta as an example shows how you can do simple clickbait" or why clickbait?
And what does that have to do with Migros now that kTipp has become more expensive? And sometimes you write a bit confusing stuff.
It has nothing to do with the thread; it's not the first time...
Hello alexkranz, thank you very much for your contribution. Prices abroad and in Switzerland cannot be directly compared. Simply because of the small-scale structures, the higher cost of living and the high wage level, we generally have a much higher price level in Switzerland than abroad. The different needs of consumers also contribute to the high price level. In Switzerland, for example, the standard of fittings in shopping centers and quality standards are very high. In addition, standards regarding animal husbandry and environmental protection tend to be higher in Switzerland. Various special Swiss regulations, for example regarding the mandatory labeling of products, also increase the cost price of imported goods. We also had to increase the price of Hollandaise at the end of March. This is due to the current difficult procurement situation. As a cheaper alternative, we can recommend our own-brand product from Bon Chef: https://www.migros.ch/de/product/106536000000?context=instore Kind regards, Chloe

It's unbelievable that you still dare to make the same excuses! No, it's the exorbitant margins that Migros charges that have made Migros the most expensive retailer! The margins charged in Switzerland are unparalleled in any other country in the world!
And what does that have to do with Migros now that kTipp has become more expensive? And sometimes you write a bit confusing stuff.
So: Ktipp and co. are always grumbling about Switzerland being an island of high prices. The same as Blick. However, I also pay considerably more for a Blick newspaper than for Bild, for example. If those newspapers charge prices like Germany (which has become massively more expensive), then they should please reduce the prices for their magazines too. I find Ktipp and Co a nuisance because they are always out for clickbait. That's why there was a link to Ktipp in this thread... But that Hollaindaise sauce isn't made in Switzerland, it's made in Germany. The Swiss Hollandaise in Switzerland/Basel...

Do you have any examples of clickbait on Ktipp & Co? So far I haven't seen anywhere in Ktipp & Co. that it's clickbait, let alone looks like it.
