Hello Migipedia,
Some time ago I came across xylitol in a health food store. Although the name seems "artificial", xylitol is not. Xylitol is also known as "birch sugar" and is found in many plants. We know it mainly from chewing gum and sweets that are easy on the teeth.
However, xylitol is also available in its raw form and can be used like normal household sugar. It tastes almost the same, is visually indistinguishable from sugar and has almost the same sweetening power. However, it only contains half as many calories and does not attack the teeth - on the contrary - xylitol protects the teeth! Xylitol is also suitable for diabetics.
Xylitol is a bit more expensive than sugar, but the advantages outweigh the price premium, in my opinion....
My appeal to Migros: consider using xylitol instead of beet sugar in new products. Especially in soy line products, which are not only bought by customers with lactose intolerance, but by health-conscious customers in general (or would be...if there was less to no sugar in them).
My appeal to Migros customers: If you have the choice between sugar and xylitol, try xylitol. Help the major distributors to acquire a taste for it too.
With sweet greetings,
pacast
PS: Please don't confuse xylitol with stevia (also a natural product, but not very popular due to its strong taste)
