Update 2: Further development of Migipedia forum "My contributions"
Update 2: Weiterentwicklung Migipedia-Forum "Meine Beiträge"
24 days ago I wrote Update 1 for the new Migipedia forum and promised further functionalities. With this update, I'm giving you an overview of the Migipedia innovations of the last few weeks:My contributions: With the launch of the new Migipedia forum on October 1, 2019, there was a lot of discussion about the "confusion" of topics. The criticism was that people could no longer find their own topics and discussions. For this reason, we have introduced the "My posts" filter in the forum as a first measure. Anyone who has already opened a thread or taken part in a discussion can click to display only their posts. The order is chronological. This means that the post with the most recent action is shown first. The action - i.e. reply - can also come from another user.Performance improvements: Once again, we have made the Migipedia website lighter so that pages load faster. Short loading times of websites are becoming more important. On the one hand, because more and more users are visiting websites with a smartphone and, on the other, because Google ranks websites with short loading times higher. This means that pages with short loading times tend to appear higher up in Google searches. This is particularly important for Migipedia because we invest almost no money in promoting the website.Notification emails: We have also made minor adjustments and improvements to the notification emails. In the next update in around four to six weeks' time, I will be looking at improved spam protection and options for individual subscription to posts, replies, etc., among other things. The topics of "jumping to where I was last in the forum" and "recognizing what I have already read and what I haven't" will also be covered in the next update. Until then at the latest, best regards Philipp

Thank you for trying to improve things. But this new version of the forum is so bad that it won't help. I thought long and hard about whether I should say anything at all. But the forum is simply a disaster. You can't find anything. And the fact that you first have to find out how to reply speaks for itself. Visually, everything may be newer. But the old forum had everything it needed. Then someone must have had an idea and created this. What a pity. I now only look in rarely. I'm simply not willing to scroll through the forum x times to see what the topics are. The most important improvement should be that you can see the last, let's say 10-20 topics, right from the start.

Hi Globinli Thanks for your feedback. My second update was pretty quiet for a long time - I was actually expecting feedback much earlier. Why? Quite simply because criticism comes up with almost every new feature. I am responsible for the "catastrophe" as you call the forum, which is now a month old. I would like to publish some background information here and go into more detail on individual points of your feedback. The old forum you are referring to was almost 5.5 years old when it was replaced. It was prone to errors (not all of which were noticed by the users) and therefore costly to maintain. In addition, we were almost unable to make any further developments. I could therefore no longer justify its continued operation. Of course, you could now reply that everything was fine the way it was. But that wasn't the case. A platform that cannot be further developed will eventually become obsolete. And as long as I work for Migros - and I'm very happy to do so - I want to prevent Migipedia from being overrun. The way Migipedia is set up now, we have become much faster in order to be able to react to the needs of users. And I am convinced that this is crucial. "It's Not the Big That Eat the Small. It's the Fast That Eat the Slow". We plan to release new features and improvements to Migipedia on a monthly basis. This would simply not have been possible before. The new "My posts" function is not intended to show you what is currently happening in the forum. The function is aimed at users who were involved in a discussion and want to revisit it. With this function you can easily hide posts in which you were not involved. The criticism that you can no longer find anything in the forum has reached us, has been discussed here several times and we are already working on solutions. Allow me to ask you a question: Do you use Migipedia on your cell phone or on a computer? We currently show 10 articles per page before you have to scroll. I honestly don't think that 20 posts per page would eliminate all criticism. As stated at the beginning of this thread, further improvements are coming. Be it in the form of subscribing to discussions or the frequently mentioned "show me what I haven't read yet" or "I want to jump back to where I was before". We have already thought about the topic of categories in the forum. best regards Philipp

Hi Philip Thanks for the answer. I absolutely understand that you have to update older applications at some point. I make websites myself on a very small scale and know the problem :-) Regarding your question: I actually only use the forum on my laptop. The 10 topics displayed are just not enough for me. I'm not just interested in what I might have written. I'm also interested in what others think. I've already gotten a lot of input through the forum. That was really better in the old forum. I often just saw something "older" and sometimes reacted. But then it's just like that, I have to scroll, but I haven't come across a button where I can click on a topic to go to the last entry. (I mean from the overview). Or I'm just overlooking it. For me, this is simply part of a forum. But you should be able to integrate it quite easily ;-) Anyway: for me it has lost some of its appeal at the moment. But maybe that will come back with various improvements. :-)

Hello globinli I would like to add one more thing. To be able to browse through the forum a little better in the meantime, you could also look for interesting topics in the forum's activity stream here https://migipedia.migros.ch/de/activitystream. Best regards Philipp

Yeah, much better, thanks :-) But you can do it with more than just 10 entries ;-).
Salut Philipp_Migros Thank you for the update. I've tried the function and it works very well for me, because I don't want to follow all discussions, but rather my own. I think it's great how much time you take and how detailed and open you are in answering concerns in the forum. That's not just the case with Migipedia, but generally there's more criticism than praise on the Internet. I hope that the Migipedia team doesn't let this get them down. à bientôt Melli
"The topics "jump to where I was last in the forum" and "recognize what I've already read and what I haven't" will also be topics in the next update."Thank you, I've been waiting for exactly this announcement.I'll check back just before Christmas. As it is now, it's far too tedious for me. These are functions that every forum absolutely needs (and which the old one also had). The fact that the developer doesn't know this and has to have it explained to him by the users is a bit of a shame.

@Migros Philipp Quote "I am responsible for the "catastrophe" as you call the forum, which is now a month old." Or should I write "catastrophe Philipp"? So dear Philipp I didn't write, because everything had already been written. Being able to look at your own threads isn't bad. But a better overview and being able to click at the end of the topic would be a hit. Then I'll wait ?? Whew.
"The topics "jump to where I was last in the forum" and "recognize what I've already read and what I haven't" will also be topics in the next update."Thank you, I've been waiting for exactly this announcement.I'll check back just before Christmas. Good morning Federwolke I find your words a little unfair. Who says that the developers and those responsible (including me, quote Traberli below "Katastrophen Philipp") didn't have the function you mentioned on their radar but had to prioritize it differently for the first rollout of the forum? So be it. I assume that in Update 3 or Update 4 - hopefully before the end of the year - I will be able to introduce the "jump to where I was" function. In any case, we will postpone other work that would be important to us as Migros in order to show you that your opinion really is important to us. The easiest way to build such a function would be by means of so-called cookies. But these cannot be exchanged between a user's different devices. This would mean that a cell phone would not know where I last visited the forum on a computer. In addition, the Apple Safari browser does not particularly like cookies and automatically deletes them more quickly than other browsers. It is possible that this behavior will also be adopted by other browsers in the future. But: We have an idea of how we can overcome this challenge. We still need a little more time, but we are confident that we will be able to do this properly and to the satisfaction of the community. Best regards Philipp
