Student card

Student*Innenkarte

Once a month it is known to be "Senior Citizens' Day" or "Senior Citizens' Week" (whereby the discount card may only be used once in the respective week) at Migros. On these days, Migros is stormed by senior citizens, as they receive a 10% discount. There is nothing wrong with this - on the contrary: people who tend to be financially less well-off should probably also have the opportunity to get a discount. However, the question has arisen as to why such discounts are not also offered to students. Museums, exhibitions, events, theaters - in many of these cases, students (just like senior citizens) receive a price reduction. It seems perfectly obvious that students should also be placed on an equal footing (at least in terms of their financial means) with senior citizens when it comes to food shopping. Not only would this provide support and benefits for students, it would also attract more young customers to Migros. As a young person, it is tempting to go shopping in Aldi or Lidl for less money. The introduction of a discount for students (on one day, in one week, with one card, with age or matriculation confirmation as a condition - in whatever form) would bring Migros sympathy from students and perhaps even help them decide which supermarket to do their weekly shopping in when their studies are over and their monthly salary is higher than it was when they were still working as students (and with growing financial resources, they are more likely to reach for the more expensive alternative on the shelf). This would allow Migros to attract potential (future) family fathers and mothers early on, which would certainly be worth considering in the long term. For these reasons, I think an equivalent to the "senior card" for students is an important idea and hope that it will be well received and implemented!
