Skyr - low-fat quark/yogurt with a great taste from Iceland

Skyr - fettarmer Quark/Joghurt mit tollem Geschmack aus Island

Hello.
I'm back from vacation in Iceland, where I discovered some great quark/yoghurt (a mix of the two) with hardly any fat:

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyr

it contains approx. 12gKH and 10g EW per 100g and max. 0.5% fat.
The flavors are very natural, which I particularly noticed. It simply tastes delicious and fits in with today's low-CH diet.

Perhaps Migros could adapt their products to the Skyr products or simply test the Skyr products themselves and perhaps introduce them?

Does anyone here know these products? Apparently they are also available in Norway and even in Germany...

Hello aldinbori

Thank you very much for your message. First of all: I have to admit that I am a bit
jealous of your vacation in Iceland ;) I really want to discover this country too.

I'm not familiar with the skyr curd you describe, but it sounds delicious based on your description. I'll pass your idea on to the product managers and I'm curious to see how many Migipedia members are already familiar with it. :-)

Best regards

YES, PLEASE Skyr to Switzerland!

Yes, I would love to too! I come from Norway and always bring several bags of skyr back to Switzerland. My favorites are skyr with raspberry and blueberry. So delicious! (and very low in fat!)

Sounds good. The range of (low-fat and sugar-free) dairy products on offer in Sweden is also heavenly. We could take this as an example and support Swiss farmers and dairies at the same time.

Yes please, PLEASE!

Dear Migros,

I was also in Iceland a while ago and discovered this skyr there. Other Swiss friends who were there with me, before or after, were also crazy about this special yoghurt thing.

Skyr is fresh, a clear dairy product. It can be flavored as desired and is healthy. It is VERY low in fat and very high in protein. A great product, I've long wondered why it hasn't made the leap to Central Europe yet. I still have a photo of a pack of Skyr on my cell phone, here are the values per 100g:

Energy 320 kJ (75 kcal)
Protein 10 g
Carbohydrates 8.5 g
Fat 0.2 g (!!!) (of which 0.1 saturated fatty acids)
Sodium 0.04 g
Calcium (97 mg) (12% of the recommended daily intake)

I highly recommend importing the skyr directly from Iceland and NOT switching to the Swedish-Norwegian products, which are very similar, almost identical, but not quite... only the Icelandic product tastes like Icelandic skyr - excellent! And it's cheap too...

Speaking of which, the Icelanders and Nordic countries have started to offer skyr-drikkur (skyr drink or something like that), a kind of drinking yoghurt, also very tasty - BUT: not a typical sykr...

Please take it to the store - at the airport, the whole ration I bought was taken away again... ;-)

Sounds interesting - is the consistency like that of blanc battu? This (slimline blanc battu) is also very low in fat - but unfortunately not available in all Migros branches.

By the way: Sounds like a good source of protein for vegans and everyone else.

Hello everyone

I have just found out that one of the product managers is traveling to Iceland this summer. She will be testing the Skyr quark/yoghurt there. Based on this, the introduction will then be reviewed.

Kind regards
