I wanted to buy the truffle ravioli from Sélection today and first read the list of ingredients. I am massively disappointed that barn eggs are used! The fact that Sélection products contain "cheap" barn eggs and not free-range eggs is shameful. I did not buy the ravioli and hope that they will switch to free-range eggs!

Quality: Well. I've never been able to tell the difference in taste between hen's eggs from different origins. They all taste very similar to me.
Animal welfare: I am not so deluded as to assume that my purchasing behavior has any statistically significant influence on production conditions. Whether a pack of eggs is sold more or less somewhere is lost in the statistical uncertainty.
I don't complain when cruel forms of animal husbandry are banned ... but I am a realist when it comes to my purchasing behavior.

Years ago, consumers' rejection of eggs from caged hens meant that they are almost no longer available today. It helps with every purchase, because every purchase flows into the statistics, on the basis of which the suppliers adjust their range.
Almost exactly a year ago, McDonald's decided against caged eggs and in favor of free-range eggs for the American and Canadian markets. However, it will take until 2025 before the complete changeover is complete, as the burger chain needs around 2 billion eggs a year there. The reason for the changeover was the expectation of customers in America and Canada to have at least as good ingredients in their food as McDonald's Germany has had since 1999.

That's true insofar as I don't like to get worked up about any effects that are negligible anyway. If my influence is << 1% ... who cares? I'd rather make an effort where I can make a difference.

No. In fact, conventional cage farming was gradually banned in Switzerland in 1992 and in the EU as a whole by 2012, so where should eggs from cage farming still come from?

I can only answer a question like that: keep your eyes open when buying eggs.
For calling yourself a realist, you have noticeably little to do with reality. Otherwise you would know that the influence of a single customer in a health food store and even more so in a supermarket is much less than 1%. But that doesn't matter, you're not alone.
The Swiss ban on battery farming of poultry was introduced because cage farming is a cruel form of animal husbandry, which consumers don't like at all. But enough distraction. The import of cheap battery eggs from abroad into Switzerland is permitted. Eggs sold in this way must be labeled "from cages not permitted in Switzerland". In addition, enforcement of the EU ban is still a long way from being able to speak of EU-wide compliance. Some countries are not fully implementing it and Switzerland is one of the main markets for caged eggs and products made from them. In my opinion, anyone who buys eggs as cheaply as you do and still thinks it's good is acting unscrupulously and probably only has poor taste buds.
