Palm oil everywhere!

Palmöl überall!

Dear Migipedia,

I am disappointed... It has been well known for some time that palm oil causes huge problems. This year in particular is a great example of the problems that palm oil production in Indonesia has caused for the region.

Unfortunately, there are more and more products containing palm oil, which in our opinion makes little sense, except that it is (unfortunately) a cheap raw material. In the past, all products were available without palm oil. But are you looking for a margarine without palm oil? Breakfast cereals without palm oil? Our children love Alnatura flakes, sorry we won't be buying any more. Today I discovered that Vermicelle contains palm oil. Why the hell does it have to contain palm oil?

I'm calling for mandatory labeling of products containing palm oil and for Migros to stop selling palm oil products. We have been avoiding products that contain palm oil for some time now (unfortunately there aren't even any substitutes that are palm oil-free).

What was it like with Generation M?

Hello everyone, I too have been trying for a long time to avoid products containing palm oil as much as possible, because I don't want to be responsible to the environment and precisely because we keep hearing frightening things about the production of palm oil... Of course, it's not easy for a chain like Migros to influence manufacturers and order them to stop using palm oil altogether. I think that's the responsibility of the manufacturers, and the fact that many don't want to adapt their products or have only recently started to integrate palm oil into their products is a really sad truth

The article may be a few years old, but it's more topical than ever. I would be very happy if there were more products on the market where manufacturers did not use palm oil

Hello everyone, the topic of palm oil is still topical and is also on my mind at the moment. Palm oil is not simply unhealthy, raw palm oil contains a lot of vitamin E and is certainly justified. But in many foods it has been processed and is present in a modified form. I recently read a study on this (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11528488/). It proves that a diet rich in palm oil raises cholesterol levels. The high demand from the industry also has harmful consequences for the environment. Palm oil plantations create large-scale monocultures and destroy ecosystems. In my opinion, everyone should have looked into this topic. I think this article is good for a good basic understanding: https://www.sundt.de/blog/palmoel-ungesund/ As palm oil is found in almost every food, it is difficult to avoid it completely, but at least a conscious approach would be a start. Best regards

What was true years ago is even more true today: palm oil does not belong in any products or on any shelves!!! For the consumer, neither the origin of palm oil nor its overexploitation and/or alleged non-exploitation can be verified and palm oil has no place in our food. Migros should be ashamed to foist this on us consumers!

WE and many of our acquaintances make this an issue at every opportunity and know more and more people who avoid products containing palm oil!!!

One contribution would be enough, wouldn't it, at every opportunity? Migros is constantly reducing its palm oil, something that doesn't happen overnight.

Yes, just a few minutes ago when I was shopping, I put a roll of Rädli Guetsli back on the shelf. Even if the palm oil is certified ---> I want butter or at least margarine in the Guetsli.

Hello everyone

Thank you for your messages. We are also very concerned about the issue of palm oil. There is also a Generation M promise on the subject:http://www.migros.ch/generation-m/de/nachhaltigkeit-bei-der-migros/unsere-versprechen/versprechen-filter/versprechen-konsum/nachhaltiges-palmoel.html

With the abandonment of hydrogenated fats and oils a few years ago, an alternative solution was needed. From a technological point of view, it is extremely difficult to find an equivalent substitute for partially hydrogenated fats and oils. Palm oil is practically the only suitable alternative, as it is solid at room temperature (and at refrigerator temperature), in contrast to the "healthier" oils such as olive oil, rapeseed oil, etc. Only by mixing palm oil with these other oils can a spreadable margarine, for example, be produced. Without a certain (low) proportion of saturated fatty acids, margarines would be runny; this also applies to other fats used in the industrial production of products that must have a certain firmness for technological reasons.

Replacing hydrogenated oils/fats or palm oil with other vegetable oils or fats not only has a decisive influence on the consistency, but also on the shelf life and mouthfeel of a product.

Another advantage of palm oil is its stability. Due to its composition, palm oil is less sensitive to the influence of heat and oxygen (oxidation), which is a technological and qualitative advantage, especially for long-life products.

Nevertheless, Migros is committed to improving its products sustainably from a nutritional point of view, for example by trying to increase the proportion of unsaturated fatty acids in the product as far as technologically possible.

Kind regards

Tanja

Promises are useless if you don't keep them. Flamkuchen dough without palm fat has been removed from the range ...
