Nespresso capsules made of aluminum

Nespresso Kapseln aus Alu

The plastic capsules don't work properly in my Nespresso or they crush or don't come out at all, so my Nespresso machine only gets aluminum capsules, which can be recycled properly in this country.
Coop has been selling aluminum capsules from L'Or or Jacobs (same manufacturer) for some time now. But the coffee is mediocre at best.
In Germany you can get the same Cafe Royal Kafis as in Migi, but in aluminum capsules! (and it's clear that they cost less there). Why in Germany in aluminum and not in the "home country"?
Too bad.
Now I've found aluminum Starbucks capsules in the Coop. They taste the best to me so far. But they also seem to come from Nespresso itself...
I would like to buy aluminum capsules at Migros...

My Nespresso machine has no problems with the plastic capsules. And I also like the coffee from Jacobs.

Are the Coop Starbucks capsules available in every Coop or only in larger stores? I haven't seen them yet, although I've only gone shopping in smaller Coops...

Hello @h-max, thank you for your inquiry. I have checked with the relevant specialist department. Migros will be switching to aluminum capsules and the people responsible are already working on this issue. Unfortunately, we cannot tell you at the moment when the changeover will take place - we hope for your patience.

Kind regards

Heidi

hmmmm... I'm not a coffee drinker, I'm just wondering... WHY aluminum capsules... or even worse plastic...? the poor environment...!
Successful inventors "rezemo" have now developed a recyclable capsule made of wood... if you want to bring out something new and are still in the "discovery phase"... why don't you support this more environmentally friendly method, dear Migros?
The price will certainly play a role... but the more they can produce, the "cheaper" they will be... and the molds can certainly be produced for all brands...
So... Thumbs up for the environment and support such clever founders?

I also find that superfluous. I either make coffee with a coffee maker (e.g. Bodum) or a Turkish mocha in a suitable pot.

Capsules are far too expensive and create a lot of waste.

Wood.
Of course.
After all, trees are only there to be felled and processed.

I really wonder why you need coffee capsules. Not only because the coffee enjoyment is 8 times less with capsules than with conventional preparation. I would perhaps understand it if it were a matter of making coffee on the go. But no, you make it at home or at work.

Hello Migiblitz, we have forwarded your tip about rezemo to the specialist managers. A possible collaboration must be examined in detail. That takes time. Logically, we can't yet say whether and when this will happen. Thanks for the tip anyway. Best regards, Sina

Really? You want to switch back to aluminum. It's possible that the capsules will be recycled. But they will certainly never be made from recycled aluminum: https://daslamm.ch/die-kaffeekapseln-von-nespresso-koennen-zwar-rezykliert-werden-aber-bestehen-die-kapseln-selbst-auch-aus-rezykliertem-aluminium/

Hello A1Lex2, thank you for your message. Until now, we have not offered aluminum capsules. We know that customers are looking for high quality, especially in the coffee segment. Aluminum capsules are becoming increasingly relevant for users of Nespresso®* machines, whether they are shopping in supermarkets or online. This is also confirmed by current market data. We are responding to this need with the new aluminum capsules because, thanks to its physical properties, aluminum has an excellent barrier function against air, moisture and light and thus preserves the quality of our premium coffees, allowing us to guarantee perfect coffee enjoyment. Freshness and taste are optimally protected and only unfold in the cup. The coffee experience is also rounded off with a more compact crema and even more aroma. Our high standards are now also reflected in the packaging. In addition, aluminum capsules offer excellent compatibility with the Nespresso®* system. They slide smoothly into the machine and can be used with any Nespresso®* machine without any problems. The new feel and adapted look of our aluminum capsules give our customers a recognition value. Last but not least, the capsules can be recycled, as aluminum is 100% recyclable. Aluminum is an endlessly recyclable material. In the recycling process, the coffee grounds are separated from the capsules and the aluminum is melted down. This produces a new aluminum that can be used in the manufacture of everyday objects such as bicycles. Recycling has a significant ecological advantage, as only 5% of the energy is required to reprocess aluminum compared to initial extraction. In addition, 95% less greenhouse gas is produced than with primary aluminum. Kind regards, Richi

Hello everyone - thank you very much for your reply. I have two questions: 1) It is true that the capsules are easy to recycle. But are the capsules themselves also made from recycled aluminum? If not, then unfortunately it is the capsules themselves that break the endless material cycle: https://daslamm.ch/die-kaffeekapseln-von-nespresso-koennen-zwar-rezykliert-werden-aber-bestehen-die-kapseln-selbst-auch-aus-rezykliertem-aluminium/ 2) Your main argument is that you are simply trying to satisfy an existing customer need. But Migros cannot and does not want to use this argument to legitimize offering all kinds of products. For example, there would also be a great customer need for tobacco and alcohol. But you still don't give in to that. Coffee capsules, especially aluminum capsules, are not good for our planet and therefore not good for us (just like tobacco or alcohol). My question now is: how harmful does a product have to be for Migros to say "Ok, the customer need would be there, but we don't want to put it on our shelves after all." Thank you for any further answers and have a good start to the weekend soon!

@M-Ifoline / Richi This is another one of those texts where it is not clear where it comes from - from the product manager at MGB or from Nespresso itself? The text is informative, but I would find it important if you could provide the source. Thank you very much.
