Migros in decline - freshness of products / Cumulus points / "price reductions"
Migros im Sinkflug - Frische der Produkte / Cumulus Punkte / "Preissenkungen"
Unfortunately, a lot seems to be going wrong at Migros lately. Thank God I'm NOT a Migros owner and this advertising is more than just annoying anyway.... But as a long-time Migros customer, I am now very disappointed with Migros.
The products are often not fresh (vegetables/fruit) because too much is bought at once and is probably also poorly stored. At Lidl, vegetables are much fresher - but the shelves are not always full, but what is there is fresh.
Meat is usually close to its expiration date - at Coop there is a 50% discount 3 days before expiry - Migros waits until almost the last day and then reduces the price, but not by 50%.
I always do a weekly shop (usually on the same day) so I'm happy if the goods have a shelf life of more than 1-2 days (= use by). Example: M-Classic cold cuts, I buy a pack with an expiration date in about 1 week, perfect. When I arrive the next week, the shelf is still full - with the same cold cuts from last week and the same best-before date (usually 1-3 days until expiry).
Meat promotions always have Terra Suisse written on them in large letters - now I always read the packaging to see if it really says IP production. On more than one occasion, there was NOTHING about IP-Suisse on the packaging! Sales staff then tell me some fairy tale about why it doesn't say that...
Prices are getting higher and higher (quite inconspicuously). Example: Züpfe - new packaging and 10 centimes more expensive (the price is no longer on the packaging and the new packaging is simply ugly).
Example: toilet paper: same promotion as last year, recently bought - basic price is CHF 1 more expensive than last year.
In return, "so-called" favorite products are permanently "lowered" in price. Example: Date tomatoes - old Fr. 3.80, new Fr. 2.80 - used to be Fr. 2.80 and got more and more expensive, since then I've been buying them at Lidl, they're always Fr. 2.80 and even fresher.
But the latest Cumulus statement didn't even include the two "triple Cumlus points vouchers". Ok, they're getting fewer and fewer anyway (used to be 5x) so why not do away with them altogether.
On the other hand, I've noticed that I've hardly had to queue at the checkout recently, as there are so few customers at Migros.... I wonder why that might be.
In any case, I'll probably do my weekly shopping somewhere else in future - bye bye dear Migros.
