Dear Migros Are the M- Classic pasta products only made in Switzerland with foreign wheat, or is the wheat also grown in Switzerland?

Good evening Yoliboli I suspect that even with good climatic conditions, a good wheat harvest in Switzerland would not cover the demand, as too few farmers grow durum wheat. The areas where durum wheat is grown are characterized by warm climatic conditions with dry and hot summers. Durum wheat is therefore mainly grown in Italy, France and North America and imported into Switzerland. The Italian industrial giants also import durum wheat from North America and Russia, not because it is cheaper than the domestic product, but because it is the better product. Best regardsFrederica

Thank you, I just don't want to eat Canadian wheat anymore, so I'm asking if the pasta is domestically produced. The climate in Canada is not ideal for growing wheat. It is too cool and the wheat is sprayed with glyphosate (siccation) to ripen in the field before harvest. The poison ends up in the wheat and is harvested shortly afterwards. This grain is "poisoned" with glyphosate and we eat it afterwards. This process is banned in Switzerland, so I either eat organic grain or conventional grain from Switzerland.

I hope that I will get a precise answer from Migros as to exactly where the wheat comes from. Thank you very much.

I recorded and watched Gluten, the enemy in your bread . It was very informative. So: What should Migros write to you that you don't already know 🤷🏻♀️ Edit: Found the following in the media release of 15.06.2020.Migros relies on completely pesticide-free wheat for bread from the JOWA bakeryZurich - Following successful tests, Migros is officially starting to switch to completely pesticide-free cultivation of bread grain. JOWA processes 85,000 tons of IPSUISSE grain annually into bread and baked goods for Migros and already uses grain without fungicides, insecticides and stalk shorteners. Herbicides are also no longer used in cultivation. By 2023, Migros will only use grain from completely pesticide-free cultivation .

Thanks for the tip, but pasta is neither bread nor baked goods, right? They are pasta. I would simply like to know where the durum wheat for the pasta comes from. Thank you.

Hello Migros. Did you miss my question?
This is quite possible, as M-Infoline has answered this question several times in the last few days: The durum wheat for M-Classic pasta comes from Canada, the EU or the USA, depending on availability.
