Yes, that's right. The Eastern Switzerland cooperative took the protein cheese out of its range again in December due to low demand and the resulting high spoilage rate.
As you correctly wrote, it is still available in the Zurich cooperative.

Can someone please explain the difference between Harzer cheese and hand cheese? I don't know either ?
Hello @Mystery1978, thank you for your question. The two products are very similar and are German specialties. Both correspond to a cheese production type Quark (better known as sour cheese) with very little milk fat, as the butter production was the main focus and not the cheese. Handkäse is hand-molded and also made with salt and sodium bicarbonate (lye), which is not the case with Harzer. The maturing process can also be different, with or without smearing and at different temperatures. Kind regards, Richi
