BEVERAGE CARTON RECYCLING why not at MIGROS too?

GETRÄNKEKARTON RECYCLING warum eigentlich nicht auch bei der MIGROS?

Some time ago I came across a strange collection box somewhere in central Switzerland.
It looked like the old clothes collection boxes. But it was labeled getraenkekarton.ch.

This made me very curious, so I searched the Internet at home. It's exciting what you find out there. I now collect them and save a 35 liter waste bag per month.

Unfortunately, you can't take the drinks cartons back to Migros, which I think is a shame, because Migros always says it's doing something for the environment.

Why can't such collection points also be set up in the larger Migros stores?

Somewhere? Central Switzerland? Internet?

That sounds very interesting! Give us facts and addresses!

Tetra Recycling is already in operation in Austria, e.g. http://www. oekobox.at

Wasn't there or is there a Migros pilot project? I thought I read something about it once...?

Here is the thread @moz79 mentioned:

www.getraenkekarton.ch you will also find many places where you can return them.

Hello everyone

Thank you @lomoli for this suggestion. Like moz, I have in mind that we are already working on this topic.

The topic of recycling is very important to us. We only started taking back shampoo bottles and other recyclable waste some time ago.

I'll clarify the current status of beverage carton packaging and get back to you as soon as I have more detailed information.

Hello everyone

So far, it seems that the Swiss Retail Trade Interest Group is against the collection of beverage cartons. The reason is the unbalanced cost/environmental benefit ratio. Currently, collecting and recycling cartons would still be very expensive. As beverage cartons are increasingly being made from FSC cardboard and therefore already have a good ecological balance, the ecological added value of collecting them would be very low.

Two short quotes fromwww.getraenkekarton.ch

Used beverage cartons: Much more than just waste
As already mentioned, beverage cartons consist of 75 percent cellulose. This provides the carton industry with the coveted raw material for the production of core cartons, folding cartons and corrugated cardboard. Thanks to their long, tear-resistant fibers, beverage cartons are ideally suited to being recycled after use and used to produce new packaging.

Looking ahead
Beverage cartons are not (yet) recycled in Switzerland, but are disposed of with normal household waste and incinerated in waste incineration plants. However, the ecological balance of disposal can still be significantly optimized. By creating structures that make used beverage cartons and their valuable raw materials usable: collect, recycle and reuse - because beverage cartons can be much more than just waste - they are a valuable material!

It all starts with the bold print. It can be optimized!

And that's where big companies like MIGROS with its "Generation M" are needed
You have set a good example and have the largest solar system on the roof.
With you I can recycle CDs where I wonder whether there is a great ecological benefit.

I WOULD BE VERY HAPPY IF MIGROS WOULD RECONSIDER THIS.

Best regards & collect diligently

Hello lomoli

Don't worry, we are far from finished with this issue. However, as many parties are involved, the process is not easy. But we will certainly keep at it.

We are delighted that some of you are interested in beverage carton collection. The Beverage Carton Recycling Association is committed to ensuring that environmentally friendly packaging can also be recycled in Switzerland.
Our pilot project, which now has over 80 collection points (at municipalities, waste disposal companies and retail outlets), demonstrates the benefits of recycling and shows in particular that the collection of beverage cartons is a real need among the population.
At the same time, the burden on the environment is reduced by around a third if the packaging is recycled instead of incinerated.
We are in dialog with all parties involved to establish a national collection system so that more and more people in Switzerland can recycle this valuable packaging.

Dear Mr. Schelker,

I think it's good that this offer exists. What I don't like, however, is that Chur is left out in Graubünden. The nearest stations are Valbella, Lenzerheide and Vaz/Obervaz and that is not feasible for me, Migros Gäuggeli would be a good solution. Thank you
