Thank you for your message. Whenever possible, Migros sources chicken meat from Swiss producers. However, these producers can only cover just under 50 percent of domestic consumption of poultry meat. At Migros, the proportion of Swiss poultry meat is around 80 percent. The rest has to be imported. Our TerraSuisse label stands for animal-friendly farming. I often notice that chicken meat... as well as other LM... is depreciated by 25%/50% with regard to the best before date... Of course it is good that the goods are "eaten" instead of thrown away, but with the number of reduced items every day, both yours and your competitors', our system is characterized by enormous waste. For "legal" and also "supply" reasons...
However, I am convinced that the 20% at Migros would certainly be there...
In Vienna, as much bread is "thrown away" every day as Graz eats... I once heard... The situation is no different for many other products... Since the year 2000, the world's population has technically managed to produce food for 12 billion people... people to produce food... How incapable are we actually?
So what can be done better in terms of "distribution"?
Does everything really have to be available every day until the last minute?
What is our price for this?

For these reasons, I now only buy seasonal Swiss products. Regardless of whether they are more expensive. They simply taste better and I can rely on the quality.
After all the information in the media, I can't imagine anyone buying meat/poultry from Germany, Hungary, Slovenia etc. any more. And out of consideration for the unenlightened people, this meat/poultry of questionable quality and with questionable consequences for health should not be offered.

In the supermarket we have a choice... but if we want a chicken schnitzel sandwich from the Migros take-away... Quick... and straight back to work... we have NO CHOICE but the Brazilian/Hungarian etc. Mass-produced goods... Not to mention all the other take away stalls and restaurants etc... Cheaper is just cheaper... and who reads the scary references to antibiotics - beef etc... on the last page?
It is the duty of every entrepreneur to ensure the consistent implementation of a SOOOO BIGLY WRITTEN STRATEGY... otherwise his image will inevitably suffer in the long run...

My question: Why does the remaining 20% have to be imported? We could remain happy with the 80% Swiss poultry. Too much food is thrown away unused anyway.

The chicken from TerraSuisse is much tastier and juicier than these poor fattened animals. I generally try not to eat too much meat. I must have bought too little, because the Terrasuisse chicken is unfortunately no longer available at Migros Zollikofen. I hope that will change again when the barbecue season starts.

Current photos from a chicken farm in the Bernese Seeland. The farm produces for Frifag Märwil AG, which supplies Migros, among others. The footage shows blatant violations of the Animal Welfare Act. Numerous animals are dead, some already badly decomposed. The belief in small-scale animal husbandry in Switzerland is unbroken. Wrongly so: factory farming has long since arrived in Switzerland. In fattening facilities with up to 18,000 chickens, 17 animals per square meter are crammed in. In the name of profit, chickens are degraded to commodities. With devastating consequences.

Most customers always expect full shelves, they are not interested in the logistics required to achieve this. The sale of surpluses through price reductions is factored in from the outset. Even when individual goods are offered by the pallet at 25% in the Migros outlet, they still make a good profit. However, this is essentially not Migros' fault, as it only offers customers what is required. The real blame lies with the customers and consumers, who always complain as soon as something runs out. These people are as stupid as the proverbial chickens, because with products that are not always available or are quickly out of stock, you benefit from the freshness as soon as they are back on the shelf.
Is it really necessary to eat meat every day? We don't eat meat every day, but not because we can't afford it. Firstly, it's much healthier and secondly, it increases our appreciation of meat-based dishes.
So take a good look at yourselves, because when it comes to demand, it's up to you to decide whether or not additional imports are necessary.
