Various poultry products from Migros (e.g. many things from DonPollo) are made from poultry that comes from Brazil.
I ask myself whether this is necessary and who buys and supports this?
We know about the catastrophic conditions of poultry farming abroad, don't we?
I'm glad to see that Migros is increasingly opting for Swiss poultry. But still. What do you think? Do you pay attention to it?
I think it's very bad that Migros uses Brazilian poultry meat. In general, however, I am against meat consumption, as it only causes suffering and environmental pollution, and that for a brief moment of "palate pleasure". Does any living creature deserve something so brutal?

@corini: i think eating meat is ok. in my opinion, eating meat does not necessarily mean suffering for the animal. but when it comes to poulet from brazil, it definitely means suffering. and that should not be the case.
@acko: the poultry market in Switzerland would certainly be big enough if everyone had a reasonable meat consumption. but instead, most people overdo it and resort to cheap foreign products without thinking about the suffering they cause.
about the price: of course chicken from brazil is cheaper. the animals are treated accordingly badly. do you think it's okay to accept animal cruelty for a few francs less?
@magpie: I disagree. I personally always find human-induced unnatural death a pain. But everyone has to decide for themselves whether they want to support it or not.

Presumably the chicken is flown in from Brazil because it is certainly cheaper than poultry from Switzerland, or am I wrong?
I eat meat too, but not much and only SWISS meat!!! I think Migros could set a good example here......! Would it really not be feasible to sell only Swiss meat? And why does it have to be Brazil? I don't think the husbandry will be much better than in Hungary - and these are catastrophic circumstances!!!!!

@Malaika78: of course you're right: it's all about the money.
as far as the husbandry is concerned: it will be exactly the same or even worse than in hungary. the germans also have hardly any regulations regarding poultry husbandry. the situation there is correspondingly catastrophic.
and i can also tell you why poulet is imported from brazil in the first place:
because of people who don't have a decent relationship with meat and its consumption. many people think that you have to have meat on the table several times a week, or even every day. many people don't even think about it. and since meat is not exactly one of the cheapest products, these irresponsible people (mostly people from the lower classes with not so much education) go for cheap meat. after all, it tastes like meat. and it's cheap too. how great! but then they just don't think any further. or they simply ignore it. because...they need meat so badly!
having little money is no excuse for me, for example. even with little money, you can afford really good swiss meat at least once a week. and that's totally enough, isn't it?! but most people don't see it that way. and that's why there's a demand for cheap meat. animal suffering or not.
but those people who actually buy such meat, and i'm sure there are various individuals here on migipedia, don't come forward of course. because there's effectively no excuse. only ignorance.
@magpie: You address important aspects with your explanation of why chicken is imported from Brazil. However, I find your parenthetical statement that mostly people from lower social classes with less education would buy cheap meat a bit "bold". I know enough so-called "educated" (or those who think they are) middle-class people who consume cheap meat en masse every day. I also know people who live on the breadline and still save their money every day for "sensible" consumption.
The fact that Migros, Coop and Co. only offer chicken/turkey cold cuts (which I used to eat every day... shame on me) made from imported non-organic poultry was one of the reasons why I stopped eating meat. I'm sure some people around me would prefer Swiss chicken and would pay more for it if Migros offered such products.

i agree with you that this statement is a bit bold. nevertheless, discussions and things i see over and over again give me the right to say something like this.
but i'm sure that academics and the like also consume such meat because they don't concern themselves at all with what they are stuffing themselves with.
unfortunately, far too few do.
what do you mean by "sensible consumption"?
and if people resort to such products because there is no alternative, then for me it still means that ignorance is greater than reason.
there are so many things made from swiss meat, including poulet.
buying such products for lack of an alternative is no excuse for me.
@magpie: In my opinion, "sensible" consumers don't just throw all sorts of things into their basket based on criteria such as "the cheaper, the better" or "it just tastes good". They are informed about the social, ecological, economic and health-related aspects of their consumption and shop accordingly within their personal and financial means. I agree with you that it is "unreasonable" to buy chicken from Brazil (for me, meat consumption is currently unreasonable in itself...). glg, "Twilight"
