Dear Migros, I think an explanation is due for this product. For some time now, customers have been complaining about the changed recipe of some Farmer bars. What is the reason for the change and why are the bars now inedible?

Not only do the Farmer apple bars taste disgusting, I've also left the other bars with "improved recipes" on the shelf. I have no problem with recipes being revised from time to time, but do they always have to be made worse or does anyone even test these revised products before they go on sale? If so, then I wonder who tastes these Farmer Bar apples...

Good topic, thanks for the article. That's exactly what I was really annoyed about. It's a shame - I've always loved the bars. It's also a mystery to me why a great product is modified in such a way that it then becomes completely unusable. I would also be pleased if an explanation were provided

I've always enjoyed eating the Farmer bars too and thought it was great that there were so many varieties, it was a really nice change. Janu, I'll just try the ones from Coop now. I would also wonder why great products are "invented"/"improved" and then instead of actually being better, they turn out to be much worse than they used to be...
Maybe because they are now without palm oil? Because people denounce the evil, evil palm oil, make a fuss, the manufacturers are so nice to the customers' wishes and now it doesn't fit again? I don't see a substitute for the palm oil, it has to stick together, so it was solved with other ingredients. Palm oil is fat and therefore a flavor carrier, it could contain the exact same apples, but because the binding with the fat is missing, the taste is not as intense and does not spread. Is it the Farmer Soft Bar Apple?

The essence of what you write can of course be true. However, I find the first paragraph very generalizing. I don't know about the other commentators, I personally have not previously denounced palm oil and am now complaining about it by implication. I merely agreed that I was surprised and annoyed by the taste of a product that I previously enjoyed and regularly bought.

I wasn't referring to the bad, bad palm oil here, it's just about the connection. Palm oil is often demonized, even on Migipedia there have already been articles about it and the demand to replace palm oil in certain products or in all products with something else. It is denounced that it is harmful to the environment, monocultures in Asia, etc. I was just being sarcastic about palm oil, nothing more. Others have the problem that the product tastes different. This small amount of palm oil that Switzerland consumes is probably not really worth mentioning in comparison to production. There are also monocultures in Europe, e.g. olive tree fields, mango plantations etc. I don't think it's so good either, because monocultures are susceptible to diseases, but it's effective for harvesting. It's just not easy to find a method that is integrated into nature and effective.

Unfortunately, I no longer have the old packaging, so I can't say whether it's because of the palm oil or not. You can find this online at Migros: https://produkte.migros.ch/farmer-soft-apfel-33-zucker#reviews If you look at the list of ingredients, it says: "Cereals 29 % (oats, rice, wheat), soluble dietary fibers (from corn), soy seeds, raisins 9 %, maltodextrin, dried apples 8 %, palm fat, humectants: Sorbitol and glycerol, glucose, fructose, sugar, acidulants: citric acid and ascorbic acid, table salt, flavoring, emulsifier: E 473, sunflower oil." I have no idea what was on the old packaging. I have also eaten improved products that previously contained palm oil and then no longer did, and then found the improved product without palm oil better. I really can't say whether the bars taste worse because they no longer contain palm oil. After trying the new version, I haven't bought them again since.

Oh, sorry. Then I misunderstood you
Hello Magnoliapower Due to the growing customer demand for an alternative to palm oil, we have decided to produce the Farmer Bar with sunflower oil. At the same time, we have also changed the manufacturer. The Farmer is one of Migros' own brands with cult status. For strategic reasons, we decided to have the Farmer cereal bar produced by our own Migros industry, Midor to be precise. The aim is clear: Farmer should continue to taste at least as good as countless customers have loved it for many years. However, we are aware that the taste is not quite the same despite the largely identical recipe. We are currently working hard to make improvements so that the bar will soon taste at least as good as it used to. Kind regards, Angela

Hoi smartcoyote What a shame that you don't like the revised apple bars at all! I've taken your comment on board and of course we test the products when we change the recipe. We try to satisfy the majority of our customers' needs with our range. We are aware that we don't always meet everyone's tastes, even though we naturally hope to please as many people as possible. I have informed the people responsible about your complaint. Kind regards, Angela
