Digital coupons have been around for two months and could eventually replace paper coupons. In my opinion, however, they still have a conceptual weakness - if I have understood everything correctly.
If I have a 5x points coupon, I don't want to use it if I've bought 2 kg of tomatoes. However, if I have activated the coupons, they are automatically used with the next purchase and are therefore invalidated. Now, if I want to buy the tomatoes quickly, I would first have to deactivate my 5x points coupon and then reactivate it before the next purchase, which is too inconvenient.
I plan to start using the digital coupons when I can decide whether to use them at the payment terminal (of course, I don't pay at the traditional checkout) and must/may confirm that the coupon has been validated.
Any opinions on this?
