For about two months now, the mangoes and papayas in the Zurich area have all been rock-hard, sour and therefore barely edible. Even if mangoes are already shriveling, you can tell that they are not ripe. That's a shame.
Unfortunately, they don't ripen at home either and remain so inedible.
Please tell your producers to harvest ripe fruit.

We have discussed your comments with the fruit professionals. We have informed the relevant departments in Purchasing and Quality Assurance about your comments.
It is annoying when fruit is still unripe or spoils prematurely - we understand that. Products of impeccable quality are also very important to us. We try to guarantee this quality by imposing clear requirements on our suppliers and carrying out strict checks on incoming goods.
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to get fruit onto the shelves at the optimum degree of ripeness. These are natural products that are dependent on various influences that we can hardly control (e.g. temperature, rain, humidity, etc.). On the one hand, the goods should arrive in our stores ripe and full of flavor, on the other hand they must be easy to transport and must not spoil just a few days after being sold.
These two very different requirements must be met. In addition, certain quality deviations sometimes only become apparent after some time and are barely visible. We are constantly working to prevent this as far as possible.
Fruit can be divided into climacteric fruit (post-ripening fruit) and non-climacteric fruit (non-post-ripening fruit). This leads to challenges along the entire value chain, affecting supply, demand and transportation routes.
Another challenge lies in the different needs of our customers. Some want to eat the fruit immediately, others prefer to keep it for a few days. We try to do justice to both.
Our aim is to meet all requirements and always offer top-quality produce. Despite all our efforts, it can unfortunately sometimes happen that products of lower quality end up on sale. You can of course return these to your branch.
