Hello, I bought a biscuit cake base in August. It can be kept until at least 05.09.2019. Unfortunately, I found it again yesterday. What can I do: use it or throw it away? Many thanks in advance.
I never throw food away when the expiry date has passed. I always rely on my senses. Smell it and try a little. I have found that yoghurt, for example, still tastes great weeks after the expiry date. Of course, this doesn't apply to all foods
One of the worst causes of food waste is the fact that the use-by date is often set far too early. Meat products can also be given to dogs or cats to sniff. They may not be able to read the date, but they have a better sense of smell than we do.
@Cinderella the tip is well meant but dogs eat carrion and are hardly reliable, cats should not be given processed meat products that cause damage to the organism
They should not eat the food themselves, just check that it is still fresh. Katzi only gets food recommended by the vet to eat herself (the same food can also be ordered from LeShop).
And how is that supposed to work, hold it out and when they nod it's still fresh? A funny picture?
Example: You take the meat out of the fridge and put it on the kitchen table ⇢ Cat comes running out of the bedroom and jumps onto the kitchen table. You can then conclude that it is fresh. Or: you put the meat on the table, the phone rings, you answer it, come back and the meat is no longer there, then it was fresh. If the cat is not interested in it/turns its head away or walks away, it is unclear whether it is no longer fresh or whether the cat simply doesn't like it.
