I was in a new Migros restaurant in Migros City Zurich and wanted to use the toilet. Now it costs 1 CHF. I didn't pay anything! I jumped over!!! I think it's an insult that Migros charges a franc and I ate in the restaurant. Migros is no longer Migros. It is a money hungry business.

Hello omtatsat
Thank you for your feedback. I'll be happy to pass this on to the people responsible at the Migros City Zurich store.
I don't know the exact reasons why this was introduced, but I would be happy to clarify this.
if you had come across a kind of ticket machine and received a 'WC ticket' for one franc, it is most likely the same system that has been in use for a long time in the restaurant in the Marktgasse branch in Bern, for example. You will get back the franc you paid in so far as you can use this WC ticket later - even weeks later - at the Migros till instead of a franc.

@maripacichI think this system is still quite good. I assume it will be about the same as at the highway service stations in Germany. So on one side you pay something for the toilet (cleaning lady) and on the other side for the store.
@omtatsat: Exactly, exactly what I meant :) merci? Lg, maripac

Hello everyone
Nice to see that the question here has already been resolved without me having to do anything. Thanks for everyone's help :-).
I can give you some more background information so that this step might be a little easier for you to understand:
According to the people in charge at the Migros Zurich Cooperative, there was unfortunately gross soiling and vandalism in the toilet facilities before the renovation. Toilet seats and coat hooks were torn off and paper was stolen on a daily basis. Due to drug use in the toilet facilities, blue lights also had to be installed. In order to improve hygiene and safety for our customers, those responsible felt compelled to take the new measures.
The toilet facilities are now supervised throughout the day and are constantly cleaned by the cleaning staff. Maintaining the facility is very demanding - but we attach great importance to it.
I hope you now have a little more understanding for our approach.
Kind regards
Tanja

The rip-off mentality in Zurich continues unchecked and without any shame.
As a commuter between New York and Zurich, I recently read an article in the New York Times with the headline:
"Don't visit Zurich, it's an entireripoff"....translated for non-Anglophiles: "Don't visit Zurich, it's an omnipresent rip-off"
That's right! T-shirts, available in the factory shop for 10-16 rappen, are sold without a blush! blush!...young, uncritical people, for, believe it or not, up to Fr. 75. .......!!!
"High-tech sports shoes, go in Taiwan (like 98% of all shoes!!) for US$ 2.25 over the factory counter, in Zurich up to Fr. 380.- .......!!!
In a pastry shop on Bahnhofstrasse, the saleswoman did NOT sink to the floor in shame when she asked for a small, very small raspberry, when she wanted to charge Fr. 9.50 for a small, very small raspberry tart!!!!!! In some parts of the world, you could feed a whole village for about 12 days for that!!!
And now, the icing on the cake: ...... in the Migros City restaurant on Löwenstrasse, you pay, whether you like it or not, Fr. 1 for a visit to the toilet! This is probably the height of of cheekiness and underlines the truth of the above-mentioned article! A clean toilet is a matter of course. Whether damage or vandalism occurs is of no interest to the customer in any way, this is the entrepreneurial risk!!!
The behavior of Migros City is unsympathetic....also, shop where you are valued as a CUSTOMER, the CUSTOMER and ONLY the CUSTOMER makes the indescribable wealth of the corporations possible!
My recommendation: the only thing that helps is the magic word "boycott". Leave these stores alone and shop where the rip-off has not (yet) taken hold. However, this is likely to prove very popular in Zurich.... indeed in the whole of Switzerland, is likely to be very difficult!
Yes, I encourage you.... go abroad and shop there.......only through the lack of sales is the only way to bring the big corporations and retailers to their knees!
There will (as always) be unsuitable excuses found by those criticized....." expensive rents....expensive staff....insurance.....etc. etc. etc."
In New York, 5th Avenue, Madison Avenue etc., the rents are extremely much higher, there is significantly more competent and friendly staff available (security etc.) and yet no moon prices are charged.
A world-traveling CEO in purchasing who feels ripped off.

Finally someone who speaks the truth. I also know New York, where, with an attitude like the one described in the article, you wouldn't even have to open such a center, because not a single person would enter it again after their first visit. The Swiss, however, generally do not dare to complain about such a rip-off, because someone might think that they are a bit weak in the wallet. Wake up at last and put a stop to this rip-off and pay back these dilletant, greedy and above all unworldly "managers". Certain circles are complaining that the flow of tourists is decreasing, why do you think? There are still people who won't let themselves be ripped off. Bravo.
